Metal Shop Supervisor

Job Summary:
The Metal Shop Supervisor is responsible for supervising successful performance of the team in the metal shop by meeting established production metrics. The Supervisor will be directly responsible for providing operation and maximizing equipment usage to affect the best possible deliverables. The supervisor is the consistent achievement of the production schedule safely, efficiently and within budget to ensure the highest quality products for our customers. This is a hands-on role which will work collaboratively with other departments and maintain the flow in the metal shop production. The Supervisor will motivate the team as well as driving initiatives that will lead to improvements in KPI’s.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively lead all metal shop employees, operations and processes to ensure meet all established quality standards.
- Directly responsible for providing strong labour operation and maximizing equipment usage to affect the best possible deliverables.
- Work involves a high degree of visual attention and concentration with constant attention to detail when operating equipment.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and identify ways to improve efficiencies.
- Responsible for routine inspection of production to ensure component parts are produced according to required specifications and acceptable precision tolerances.
- Must have good knowledge of all standard measuring equipment and devices.
- Must be knowledgeable of proper safety standards and procedures and be proficient in the safe operation of production machines & forklifts.
- Communicate with other Supervisors, Team Leaders and Management team. Coaching and developing employees to encourage and support a high-performance work culture.
- Responsible for employee’s shift schedule, timekeeping and attendance.
- Ensures that the company’s product quality and safety standards and procedures correctly followed.
- Evaluate, write and deliver performance feedback.
- Administer disciplinary action when required.
- Understand, promote, implement and adhere to all safety, environment, ergonomic standards and practices into daily work activities.
- Responsible for planning and maintaining staffing levels.
- All other related duties or projects, as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
- Completion of post-secondary education in manufacturing or production management or a related field of study.
- Minimum 5 years proven work experience in a supervisory position.
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience.
- Knowledge of MS Office.
- Must have a thorough understanding of lean manufacturing, production processes and quality control.
- Must have good reading, writing, computational, analytical and problem-solving skills in or order to
- discharge responsibilities efficiently and effectively.
- Must be computer literate and have good working knowledge of MS Excel, calculators and other office equipment.
- Must have good communication, interpersonal and management skills to be able to direct, manage, motivate and otherwise work effectively with others (i.e., staff, departmental managers); must be able to resolve operational and people problems in a courteous and discrete manner.
- Excellent supervisory and organizational skills required in coordinating the operations.
- Must be knowledgeable of proper safety standards and procedures and be proficient in the safe operation of machines and equipment.
- Must be versatile and be able and willing to perform unrelated tasks as assigned.
- Good interpersonal skills are required to communicate effectively and clearly in resolving problems, providing information and responding queries; must be friendly, polite and courteous.
- Good organizational skills to plan and coordinate departmental activities to ensure that work is completed accurately and within deadlines.
- Must be knowledgeable in all facets of the company’s operations.
