Job Title: Service & Start-Up Mechanical Technician

Role Purpose: The Service & Start-up Mechanical Technicians are responsible for the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of mechanical components directly at customer sites. They must follow required specifications to meet safety, quality, and customer requirements. They will perform repairs, troubleshoot problems, and conduct servicing and warranty work on machines after installation. This role requires frequent travel to customer sites both domestically and internationally.

Reports To: Service Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customer locations to assist with the installation and assembly of machinery according to customer requirements.
  • Provide technical support and maintain equipment – servicing as per customer request.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings and component specifications in order to recognize parts for assembly.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools following appropriate methods and procedures to complete mechanical assembly of components or products.
  • Perform basic tests on installed components to ensure they meet the appropriate standards.
  • Inspect, operate, and test completed products on customer sites to verify functionality, machine capabilities, and conformance to customer specifications.
  • Diagnose and trouble shoot mechanical systems to ensure accurate operation and safety.
  • Document installation and start-up processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, electrical technicians, and project managers to ensure successful installation.
  • Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance to ensure ongoing machine performance.
  • Handle warranty work, including diagnosing issues, and performing necessary repairs.
  • Provide detailed reports on warranty and service work completed, including parts used, labor hours, and any recommendations for future preventative measures.
  • Educate customers on proper machine usage and maintenance to minimize future issues and prolong machine lifespan.
  • Respond promptly to customer service requests, minimizing downtime and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through effective communication and reliable service.

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary diploma or Skilled Trades Certificate of Qualification in a related field (preferred)
  • Experience in mechanical installation and start-up in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Must have a general understanding of mechanical assembly as it applies to equipment
  • Previous experience in assembly of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Willingness to travel to client sites for project installations, service, and support
  • Valid passport and driver’s license – frequent international travel required
