Role Purpose: As an estimator, you will be responsible for preparing cost quotes for customers seeking fabrication and machining services. Parmerit’s estimators will collaborate with cross-functional teams, build strong relationships with customers through regular communication, and monitor material costs adequately. This role requires a strong technical background and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Reports To: General Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate cost quotes to customers for fabrication and machining services
  • Read, interpret, and analyze engineering drawings - specifically machining specifications, tolerancing, types of materials, surface finishes, and welding
  • Determine material and labor costs of manufacturing processes by studying plans and specifications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, machinists, and project managers, to ensure accurate quoting
  • Present business performance indicators to stakeholders
  • Continuous follow-through with operations to see progress and performance on active jobs
  • Communicate with clients to understand their project requirements and address any questions they may have
  • Ability to build strong relationships with customers through regular communication and interface
  • Negotiate with vendors and manage outsourcing to stay competitive in the market
  • Prepare and submit quotes to customers promptly
  • Monitor market trends and material costs to make appropriate cost adjustments
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in a mechanical technician/ machinist program or a related field
  • Red seal certification is an asset
  • 5+ years experience in an estimating role within the fabrication, automation, or machining industry
  • Advanced in MS Office, Excel, ERP systems, and estimating software
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting welding and machining drawings (i.e., welding symbols)
  • Proficient in GD&T
  • Hands-on experience with CNC machines, manual mills, and boring mills
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients and internal teams
  • Must have a general understanding of steel grades and alloys, different types of fasteners, and different types of material coating (i.e., zinc, chrome)
