Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Sanitation Supervisor to lead and develop our sanitation program to meet rigorous food safety and SQF certification standards. The successful candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in food manufacturing sanitation, with a strong understanding of food safety regulations and quality management systems. This role is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving the sanitation program to ensure product safety, regulatory compliance, and overall operational efficiency.

Responsibilities Associated with Performing the Job
Program Development and Compliance:
- Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive sanitation program tailored to our facility’s processes, ensuring compliance with SQF standards, GMP, and HACCP requirements.
- Develop and document sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all equipment and areas within the production facility.
- Continuously assess the sanitation program for effectiveness and regulatory compliance, implementing improvements as needed.
- Ensure team compliance with safe use of chemical, effective LOTO, and other safety requirements.
Sanitation Processes and Procedures:
- Oversee and manage daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning schedules for all equipment, production areas, and shared spaces to ensure optimal cleanliness and compliance.
- Collaborate with the FSQA Manager and QA team to implement corrective actions related to sanitation or environmental test results.
Training and Leadership:
- Train, supervise, and mentor the sanitation team to follow all SOPs, safety guidelines, and quality standards.
- Develop training programs for new hires and conduct regular refresher training to maintain high standards of sanitation knowledge and practices.
- Ensure all sanitation team members are adequately trained in the proper handling of chemicals and equipment used in cleaning.
- Manage performance of team while meeting KPI metrics, through training, coaching and discipline.
Inventory and Equipment Management:
- Manage sanitation supplies and chemical inventory, ensuring adequate stock while controlling costs and ensuring safe storage practices.
- Monitor and maintain all sanitation equipment, coordinating repairs and replacements as necessary to avoid production interruptions.
Recordkeeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all sanitation activities, including cleaning schedules, chemical usage, test results, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and present reports on sanitation metrics, program performance, and compliance updates to management.
- Participate in audits and inspections, demonstrating program compliance and addressing any sanitation-related corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement:
- Research and recommend new sanitation methods, technologies, or practices that can improve efficiency, enhance safety, or reduce costs.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices, food safety regulations, and SQF requirements, integrating these into the sanitation program as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge/Experience Required to Perform the Job
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a sanitation role within a food manufacturing environment
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, including SQF, HACCP, and GMP standards.
- Experience developing and implementing sanitation programs that meet or exceed food safety and quality standards.
- Proven ability to train, supervise, and develop a team within a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with QA, production, and management teams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, required.
- Proficiency in sanitation documentation, data tracking, and reporting.
Mental Effort Required to Perform the Job
Mental attentiveness and focus is required to perform tasks according to job and customer specifications. Capacity to receive and implement instructions. Job tasks are repetitious. Attention to detail.
Physical Effort Required to Perform the Job
Physical capacity of lifting or moving up to 50 lbs may be required. Pushing, pulling, griping and climbing stairs required. Standing for prolonged periods of time.
Working Conditions while Performing the Job
Works within established guidelines in an area that has continuous noise from production machinery. Exposure to noise, dust, odours, fumes, oils, cleaning chemicals, hot and cold temperature. Works in a bright environment. Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, hairnets, gloves, and protective eyewear. Availability for occasional overtime, including weekends, to meet sanitation scheduling demands.
