Equals launched Bangarang Hard Seltzer in 2020, which has grown to be one of the fastest-growing RTD brands in Ontario. In 2021, Equals launched Shake Lager, which won a gold medal in its first appearance at the Canadian Brewing Awards. In 2022, Equals purchased Side Launch Brewery in Collingwood, adding more award winning brands to the portfolio.

Role Summary
Reporting to the Brewmaster, this role is responsible for leading and supporting the daily operations of the Brewing Department. The successful candidate will ensure the seamless execution of the weekly production schedule, focusing on achieving planned volumes with zero quality errors. A commitment to promoting and maintaining a safe work environment is essential. As part of Equals' GFSI-accredited team, you will uphold the highest standards in safe food manufacturing. Knowledge of microbiology related to beer and beverages is a valuable asset. The candidate should also be skilled in designing recipes and developing SOPs for unique beer and RTD production methods based on client requests.

Responsibilities
- Accountable for safety of brewing team, and site wide safety
- Lead the brewing department’s actions by scheduling work to be completed in wort production and cellars schedules
- Ensure packaging department has product ready to package at all times. Escalate expected packaging downtime in advance if unavoidable
- Self-driven ownership of Brewing KPI monitoring and improvement - yields, throughput, and Quality issues %
- Planning efficient ways to execute routine and non-routine tasks
- Problem solve when issues arise in production schedule, liquid quality or labour schedule
- Contribute to Supply Chain Manager’s development of schedules in week prior
- Break/fix support for minor brewing department issues. Issue work orders
- SOP updates, new issues, and team signoff
- Initiate corrective action reports (CARs) when triggered due to downtime or quality
- Work with customers’ new liquids to develop, onboard, and graduate to full scale production
- Oversight of in-process fermentation and aging. Initiate tank actions as per recipes
- React to out-of-spec flags with approvals or re-work actions
- React to liquid issues and implement changes to avoid out-of-spec liquid in future
- Strong sensory acumen for in process FVs and BBT signoffs
- Support other operations and teams throughout the site as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Education in Brewing, Distilling, Food Sciences, Brewery Operations, Brewing Science, Chemistry, Food production, Microbiology, or equivalent is an asset
- Highly detailed, good documentation practices and accurate data entry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to effectively manage time and stay organized
- Diligent to setting routines and executing critical tasks
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Good communication skills and ability to act with impact and influence
- Proficient computer skills (Google sheets, docs, email)
- Experience in a Team Lead/Supervisory capacity
- Professional communicator with stakeholders of the business including customers, other department heads, and industry peers
Working Conditions
- Primarily day shift, but must be able to support off-shifts and weekends as required
- Work in a fast-paced environment
- Standing for long periods of time
