Equals Brewing Company was founded in 2018 and has quickly grown to be a well-respected partner in producing great beers, ciders, and ready-to-drink products for many of Ontario’s and Canada’s favourite breweries and brands. Equals launched Bangarang Hard Seltzer in 2020, which has grown to be one of the fastest-growing RTD brands in Ontario. In 2021, Equals launched Shake Lager, which won a gold medal in its first appearance at the Canadian Brewing Awards. In 2022, Equals purchased Side Launch Brewery in Collingwood, adding more award winning brands to the portfolio.

Role Summary
We are looking for a keen individual to join our brewing team. Someone who has a demonstrated passion for the art of brewing and is looking to learn more and advance within the industry. The successful candidate will be a quick learner with passion and creativity, but also someone looking to learn more about the production behind brewing and how the entire process works from bringing hops, malt, and yeast in to sending out cans of great tasting beverages!
This position is responsible for Brewing and/or Cellaring. The Brewing role involves operating the 35hL, 5-vessel DME brewhouse performing continuous wort production, including picking and properly storing grain and hops, and analyzing, harvesting and pitching yeast while maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The Cellar role involves cleaning and sanitizing all brite tanks and fermenters (35-300hL), transferring beer through centrifugation, filtration, dosing/blending operations, and finishing beer in the brite cellar. Both roles will follow a schedule to produce on-time product while adhering to strict recipes and brand specifications, working closely with the quality department to ensure product is being produced to the required specification. Equals is certified in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and other food safety designations requiring adherence to record keeping, cleaning, and operations policies.
Aside from brewing production, Brewers produce Hard Seltzer, RTD, Cider, and Non-Alcoholic beverages. We also offer our customers product development on a 400L system, which is used for our Brewers’ Series experimental brewing.
Responsibilities
- Operate the brewhouse to produce sweet wort within quality specifications
- Follow customer recipes and requirements so product is in specification throughout all stages of the process and creates solutions as problems arise
- Analyze yeast using laboratory methods including cell counting
- Monitor all in-process beer and beverages with organoleptic and analytical analysis to ensure product is fit for release and packaging
- Preform product transfers, mixing, filtering, dosing, and blending to ensure finished product is within specifications with no defects
- Clean-in-place the brewing equipment, fermenters, brite tanks, process lines and other equipment
- Maintain sanitary and clean work environments on a daily basis, working to ensure organization
- Monitor food safety quality throughout the brewing and cellaring operations and actively participate in the suggestions and improvements of department food safety procedures
- Follow all Company policies and procedures and ensure workplace health and safety and food safety at all times
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Education in Brewing, Distilling, Food Sciences, Brewery Operations, Brewing Science, Chemistry, Food production, Microbiology, or equivalent
- Previous experience in brewing is preferred but not required
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a comprehensive understanding of beer and the brewing process
- Mathematical proficiency to understand calculations for blending, brewing, dealcoholization, and more
- Take ownership of work and products we create. Strive for ongoing skill development and continuous learning
- Able to perform minor maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting on brewery equipment
- Strong problem solving skills and the ability to communicate ideas for improvement
- Strong team player with a focus on progressing and improving as a team
Working Conditions
- May be required to work day, night, overnight and weekend shifts
- Shift lengths vary between 6-12 hours depending on brewing needs
- Overtime may be required
- Required to lift items weighing up to 25 kg
- Work in a fast paced environment
- Standing, walking, bending and twisting positions, some for long periods of time
- Working in a loud environment with heavy machinery
