The Opportunity
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Financial Controller to oversee financial operations at our London, Ontario manufacturing facility. This position is especially critical during the construction phase of the plant and will play a pivotal role in establishing the finance function and ensuring proper control over capital spending.
This role will report directly to the President of Medicom Manufacturing London, with a dotted line to the Group CFO, and will serve as a liaison with lenders and group treasury. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, inventory valuation, and compliance.
What You Will Do
- Oversee accounting and financial reporting to ensure accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheets, and reports for both plant and corporate leadership.
- Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and performance reporting.
- Monitor construction project costs, track expenditures, and collaborate closely with procurement, external consultants, and banks.
- Maintain robust inventory controls, supervise physical counts, and validate inventory valuation.
- Manage all government reporting related to the Strategic Investment Fund and provincial programs.
- Serve as the point of contact with banks, ensuring accurate financial reporting and communication on project financing.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, financial regulations, and tax requirements.
- Manage and mentor a small finance team, including members at our shared services center in Malaysia.
- Provide ad hoc analysis and financial reports as needed by leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a CPA (CGA, CMA, or CPA designation).
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong background in cost accounting.
- Proven experience with financial planning, project reporting, and operational finance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Bilingual (English & French) is an asset, but not required.
- Experience in plant construction or start-up environments.
- Familiarity with project financing and banking communications.
- Government program reporting experience (e.g. SIF, provincial grants).
