Quality Process Engineer
Position Description
This role will focus on setting up new production lines, optimizing existing production flows, and improving manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will work closely with the sales, engineering, material, production, and quality teams to resolve quality issues, ensure compliance with industry standards, and continuously improve the manufacturing environment. The role also includes performing first article inspections, collaborating with customers, and supporting both internal and external audits.
Job Duties
- Production Line Setup & Optimization:
- Lead the setup and commissioning of new production lines, ensuring processes are optimized for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and safety.
- Analyze and improve the flow of existing production lines, identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, or areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement lean manufacturing principles and ensure smooth operations.
- Utilize lean manufacturing practices such as one-piece-flow, Just-in-time, value stream mapping, and production smoothing to help improve productivity and meet customer demands.
- Tooling & Equipment Improvement:
- Evaluate and recommend new tooling, machines, and technologies that can enhance production capabilities and improve product quality.
- Work with the engineering team to design and implement modifications to existing tooling or equipment to improve performance.
- Ensure that all tooling and equipment comply with engineering specifications and quality standards.
- Comply with DAVWIRE's safety practices and policies when purchasing and setting up new machines.
- Quality Assurance & Issue Resolution:
- Act as the primary point of contact for quality-related issues during production, working closely with the production and engineering teams to resolve challenges.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent quality issues and ensure that products meet the required standards.
- Provide technical guidance and support to both internal teams and customers regarding product quality concerns.
- First Article Inspections (FAI):
- Perform first article inspections for new or modified products, ensuring that all engineering specifications, drawings, and quality standards are met.
- Collaborate with customers during FAI reviews, product testing and inspections, ensuring clear communication and addressing any issues or discrepancies.
- Complete FAI reports in accordance with AS9102 and customer requirements.
- Internal & External Audits:
- Support internal and external audits by ensuring that processes, documentation, and quality systems comply with industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
- Assist in the preparation and execution of audit activities, ensuring all necessary documentation and evidence are available.
- Track audit findings and support corrective actions as required.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Work closely with sales, engineering, material, production, and quality teams to develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive initiatives to reduce scrap, improve yield, and optimize overall production performance.
- Facilitate problem-solving workshops, brainstorming sessions, and root cause analysis to address quality challenges.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electromechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3-5 years of experience in process engineering, quality engineering, or manufacturing engineering, preferably in the defense, aerospace, or aviation industries.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001) and auditing processes.
- Proficient in the use of CAD software (Solid edge), database, process flow analysis tools, and other engineering design tools.
- Must meet the requirements of the Canadian Controlled Goods Security Assessment Application as per Section 15 of the Controlled Goods Regulations, SOR/2001-32.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Hands-on experience with first article inspections and customer interactions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with both internal and external customers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple projects and deadlines.
- Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is highly desirable.
- ASQ CQE is preferred.
- Familiarity with defence and aviation standards, regulations, and certifications an asset.
- Experience with advanced manufacturing technologies such as additive manufacturing (3D printing), automation, or robotics is preferred.
