The Opportunity


Reporting to the VP of Operations, this supervisory role is in charge of overseeing our London manufacturing plant’s ability to maintain high quality standards while remaining a cost-effective strategy in an effort to gain competitive market advantage. Responsible for the production and engineering departments of the facility to attain maximum efficiency in the design and production and is responsible for achieving optimum labor and return on investment by controlling overhead and raw material costs. This individual ensures that the manufacturing plant’s inventory and shipping/receiving functions are operating at levels which meet customers' needs and/or established financial benchmarks, formulates and recommends manufacturing policies and programs which guide the organization in maintaining and improving operational profitability and competitiveness, and directs activities so that approved products meet schedule deadlines and remain within set quality standards and cost objectives.

The Plant Manager has a critical role and is expected to be a leader in the organization. This individual must be a demonstrated leader, possess energy & passion, be able to effectively energize others, engage in healthy conflict, execute plans, and collaborate with fellow employees and leadership.
 
In this role you will:
  • Manages and coordinates efforts of factory operations where applicable to ensure timely and ultimately cost-effective production.
  • Maximizes production by ensuring safety & quality standards are satisfied.  Oversight of critical areas such as equipment and operator performance and the full utilization of cost-reducing technology. This individual is responsible for ensuring fixed assets are preserved and is expected to play a proactive role in suggesting plant improvements and new equipment purchase recommendations.
  • Develops, monitors, and reports operating costs within each functional area, and alerts management of cost and labor over run.  Generates and implements solutions to these obstacles.
  • Ensures orders are manufactured according to product specifications and are meeting quality standards.
  • Coordinates with Human Resources on labor issues, such as safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, grievances and strategic management. 
  • Ensures plant operations management adhere to company policies.
  • Manages the master schedule, to reflect real and forecasted customer orders beyond the immediate cycle and takes into consideration the longest material lead time in an effort to increase efficiency by preventing the buildup of past due orders during periods of oversold bookings.
  • Serves as a key member of cross-function team in regard to VOC (Voice of Customer), DFMA (poke-yoke, SWIS, eliminate of waste), and built-in quality, and assists in companywide efforts that seek to minimize the complexity of a variety of processes.
  • Arranges for the disposal of surplus materials and coordinates with vendors on discrepant material disposition as required by material review board.  
  • Develops and/or implements operational methods and procedures deigned to improve product quality and eliminate operational problems.
  • Manages inventory levels, inventory accuracy, levels of obsolete inventory, purchasing activities, and warehouse, shipping, receiving, and transportation logistics.  
  • Oversees and manages Lean Enterprise in conjunction with VP of Operations to ensure Glen Dimplex is at the forefront of Lean development and ensures we are continually moving forward with respect to educational opportunities related to Lean manufacturing.
  • Advocates for the safety of all employees in the building and ensures safety committee is being run in a responsible, proactive manner.  Ensures we are meeting or exceeding all relevant local and federal statutes.
  • Ensures the facility is meeting responsibilities in regard to environmental regulations and sustainability.
  • Encourages and advocates for continued education of subordinate leaders/managers/supervisors for the purpose of personal growth of team.  Assists in determining coursework relevant to specific job responsibilities.
  • Participates in and encourages collaboration with regards to New Product Development, ensuring communication barriers are eliminated and giving the team the tools and voice it needs to meet business needs. 
  • Produces and maintains Operational dashboard and reports. 
  • Integrates and supports better collaboration with regards to Engineering department value add to the daily operations. 
  • Supports and advocates for improved technology improvements with regards to IT support and reduction in waste associated with lack of technology. 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES
  • Manages plant supervisors, area managers, and all production workers in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, evaluation of facility activity. 
  • Directly supervises employees in purchasing, planning and scheduling, tool & die, and engineering departments.
Duties include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; coordinating with Human Resources regarding interviewing, hiring, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employee’s; addressing complaints and resolving employee problems

What You Need
  • Mechanical/industrial engineering or related major, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 or more years’ experience managing a manufacturing plant.
  • Knowledge of industrial engineering, human resources laws and regulations, and employee relations skills required.
  • Prior experience managing a distribution center helpful.
  • Must be PC proficient and have the ability to present functional specifications to IS department. Prior work experience with manufacturing-based technology preferred. 
  • Advanced knowledge, coaching, and sustainable results application of value stream mapping, value stream analysis, visual management, standardized work, 5S, quick changeover (SMED), TPM & Kanban.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to create a dynamic organization that is continuously improving and learning how to identify waste, reduce costs, increase revenues and drive problem solving to every level of the organization.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. 
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. 
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management. 
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
