Tool and Die Maker - Straight Midnights
JOB SUMMARY:
- Straight Midnights 11pm-7am
- $37.80/hour + Shift premium
- Unionized environment
- Position requires a high degree of specialized skill and knowledge of tool-building practices.
- Extreme accuracy is required to make difficult dies, tools, gauges, jigs to very close tolerances.
- Required to work effectively and efficiently under minimum supervision.
- Training, skills and ability to utilize all tool room equipment.
- Demonstrate short and long term decision making on press-area troubleshooting; problem identification and solution; tool room repair and maintenance work; tool room machining practices.
- Promote teamwork and willingness to work with others
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Trade certification as Tool & Die Maker or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Tool & Die, preferably in Automotive Mfg.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working specifically with Hot Stamping Dies
- Good working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Legislation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read and interpret drawings and specifications of tools, dies, prototypes or models.
- Compute dimensions and tolerances, and set up machine tools
- Position, secure, measure, and work metal stock or castings to layout for machining.
- Understand the concept of dies with inter-cooling channels and how this process effects of the material properties
- Knowledge to interpret the metal properties of the die and stamping material
- Optimize the Hot Stamping process to create part tailored properties
- Operate a variety of machine tools to cut, turn, mill, plane, bore, grind, otherwise shape work piece to prescribed dimensions and finish.
- Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Fit and assemble parts using hand tools
- Machine, fit, and assemble castings and other parts to make metal patterns, core bores, and match plates.
- Perform extensive die maintenance such as rebuilding die sections, re-trimming pads & forms, and engineering changes on all types of dies
- Involvement in continuous improvement initiatives
- Inspect and test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation.
- Develop, maintain and upgrade jigs, dies, fixtures and gauges.
- Ability to travel to vendors and die shops
- Perform other duties as required from time to time by your Manager/Supervisor.
EQUIPMENT AND/OR PRODUCT:
- Various equipment including grinders, mills, lathes, MIG/TIG/ARC welders, grinders, robots, stamping

- Follow and ensure the Company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.

- Ensure that your work area/department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
- Responsible to adhere to all Environmental Program ISO 14001 elements and attend training for same. Act in accordance to all Environmental policies, procedures and regulations.

Salary: From $38.80 per hour
