Equals Brewing Company was founded in 2018 and has quickly grown to be a well-respected partner in producing great beers, ciders, and ready-to-drink products for many of Ontario’s and Canada’s favourite breweries and brands. Equals launched Bangarang Hard Seltzer in 2020, which has grown to be one of the fastest-growing RTD brands in Ontario. In 2021, Equals launched Shake Lager, which won a gold medal in its first appearance in the Canadian Brewing Awards. Recently, acquiring the successful Side Launch brand to add to our growing portfolio of alcoholic beverages.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Production Manager, this position will focus on the safety, quality, performance, and people management of the packaging department. Accountable for the day-to-day operations of the packaging line(s) to ensure department goals are met and efficient scheduling is maintained between the brewing department, quality department, and the warehouse.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates and monitors all aspects of the packaging department including safety, quality assurance, liquid readiness, overall line performances, equipment utilization, and resource management covering the entire operation period.
  • Develop/support initiatives that increase site safety and quality, improve the requirement and line efficiency, minimize material and liquid losses, and focus on continuous improvements and 5S.
  • Motivate, engage, and coach employees to create a culture of empowerment
  • Facilitate a strong focus on health and safety in the workplace.
  • Ensure that quality assurance routines are maintained and any non-conformances are properly investigated with follow-up preventative and corrective actions to support
  • Support supervisors with shift scheduling and resource allocation and work with the Planning and Inventory team to optimize warehouse space, on-site materials, and production scheduling
  • Work closely with others to optimize and improve workflows to create more efficient operations
  • Manage and ensure accurate completion of packaging-related paperwork and documentation
  • Utilize the maintenance team to troubleshoot issues and minimize downtime
  • Communicate with various departments to improve and stream processes and routines with a focus on long-term improvements and efficiency in the department
  • Work with Human Resources to ensure team members are properly trained/retrained and capitalizing on learning and development opportunities
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma from a post-secondary institution.
  • 2+ years of leadership in a production environment preferred
  • Experience in a related industry
  • Technical experience and/or maintenance background preferred
  • A focus on safety in the workplace and creating a safe and health-focused culture
  • Previous experience leading or managing projects and coordinating multiple priorities
  • Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Willing to take the initiative to improve efficiency and listen to proposed solutions to create strategic goals and objects that benefit the department and company
  • Leadership style focus on collaboration, listening to the team and holding other accountable
  • Experience coaching and mentoring others
  • Proficient with standard computer and technology requirements or ability to learn new systems and support others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
