Role Purpose: Parmerit’s Welding Technician's perform or assist in tasks related to welding on the shop floor according to layouts, technical drawings or work orders, using a variety of welding equipment, following welding procedure specifications.

Reports To: Shop Supervisor

Location: Strathroy, Ontario (1/2 hour outside of London)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read, learn, understand and interpret blueprints and work instructions, and other instructions written or verbal, to complete assembly of products or components according to established guidelines and quality standards.
  • Plan details of working procedure and tools and material requirements.
  • Fabricate our equipment by welding various metals.
  • Repair equipment by using welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.
  • Select welding procedures best suited to type of work and materials involved and vary techniques to obtain proper penetration, fusion and strength, offset distortion and maintain alignment.
  • Operate drill presses, break press, power saws, grinders, positioners and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools.
  • Work with others to complete the welded components as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment according to maintenance plans and established procedures.
  • Accurately fill out all required documentation.
  • Operate fork truck, cranes, and genie boom.
  • Follow all OHSA regulations and company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to setup and operate drill press for drilling holes.
  • Ability to use measurement instruments related to the welding process.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 3-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as welder
  • Experience with material handling and moving/orientating small to large weldments following applicable safety protocols
  • Able to read and comprehend orthographic drawings
  • Strong prep and material fit up skills
  • Strong planning and managing skills to take project from raw materials to final product
  • CWB certified in MCAW/ FCAW (an asset)
