We are seeking an IT Infrastructure Area Manager to lead a high-performing team responsible for the day-to-day delivery, reliability, and continuous improvement of our IT infrastructure. In this role, you’ll combine people leadership, technical expertise, and project delivery, partnering closely with internal stakeholders and global IT teams to ensure our infrastructure services meet evolving business needs. You’ll have the opportunity to guide a talented team, tackle complex technical challenges, enhance how services are delivered, and drive key infrastructure initiatives that support a dynamic organization.
What You Will Do:
Lead & Develop the Team
- Lead, coach, and support team members through performance management, career development, and succession planning.
- Set priorities and expectations while creating a collaborative, customer-focused team environment.
- Delegate work effectively and provide guidance on complex technical issues.
Manage Infrastructure Operations
- Oversee the design, maintenance, security, and performance of server, storage, backup, network, and related infrastructure.
- Monitor infrastructure performance and service levels, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure infrastructure services are reliable, secure, and responsive to business needs.
- Support the resolution of complex hardware, network, and infrastructure issues.
Deliver Projects & Improvements
- Lead infrastructure upgrades, improvements, and implementation projects.
- Evaluate technology options and make recommendations based on business and technical requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of infrastructure standards, processes, and procedures.
- Contribute to longer-term infrastructure planning and capacity requirements.
Partner Across the Organization
- Work closely with department leaders, system owners, end users, global IT colleagues, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Translate technical information into clear recommendations and actions for audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers on infrastructure-related products and services.
- Participate in IT initiatives, research, and recommendations related to emerging technologies.
What You'll Bring
- College diploma or bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, including experience with server, storage, network, cloud, or related technologies.
- Experience leading people, projects, or technical initiatives.
- Experience working in a collaborative, customer-focused environment.
- Strong technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with infrastructure technologies and concepts, including networking, backup, storage, and cloud environments.
- Knowledge of relevant protocols and standards, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and NIST 800-171.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI and emerging technologies.
- Experience in hybrid and/or cloud environments.
- Professional certifications related to IT infrastructure, networking, security, virtualization, IT service management, or project management.
- Experience working in a highly regulated or security-conscious environment.
The IT Infrastructure Area Manager opening is a current vacant position at General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada. The base salary hiring range for this position is $98,400 to $123,000 per year. Once in the role, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through the full salary range based on performance. This range reflects the base salary only and does not include additional components of our total compensation package, such as our incentive award program and other rewards like health benefits, employee profit-sharing, retirement savings, and more.
