Operations Supervisor

The Operations Lead is responsible for managing a team of unionized personnel on a rotating 24/7 shift in accordance with daily safety, productivity, and quality goals. This position also ensures compliance with other plant policies including HACCP, GMP’s, Food Safety, etc. as well as support both production scheduling and maintenance activities. Directs and coordinates the shift activities relating to production scheduling in accordance with the organization’s standards and requirements.  Ensures workflow throughout the operations in a timely, efficient, and effective manner to meet client demands and production schedules.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage a production team for compliance with all environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Manage and supervise staff including performance management, employee relations and training & development.
  • Participate in the hiring process of operators.
  • Identify and develop training matrix in coordination with the training department for production personnel as per the Collective agreement.
  • Understanding and interpretation of collective agreement.
  • Ensure all HACCP and food safety requirements are met for the department.
  • Participate in regular safety walks/audits in the plant
  • Manage and coordinate department to ensure quality and production targets are met for the plant. Develop, set and track KPI’s and standard work in the department.
  • Manage department to eliminate all non-compliances with food safety procedures and adherence to plant GMP policies.
  • Manage production costs to maintain budget requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to streamline operations to increase output, reduce waste, and lower costs.
  • Lead/support corrective action teams for safety, quality, food safety, environmental or process deviations.
  • Monitor minimum inventories to ensure customer orders are delivered on time and in full as per service agreements.
  • Responsible for production scheduling, tracking and month end reconciliation. Also provide shipment, production, and inventory history using SAP for internal and external audits.
  • Responsible for approving time for production personnel and submitting payroll
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering field preferred or equivalent operations experience in related industry.
  • 2+ years industrial or food manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Supervision and leadership experience in industrial or manufacturing facility.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, ISO and FSSC 22000 an asset.
  • PC literate. Working knowledge of Office 365, ERP systems etc.
  • Critical decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Professional, well-organized, and team-oriented with strong leadership abilities
  • Ability to create a positive environment conducive to teamwork and effect change through good communication at all levels
  • High level of integrity, care, sincerity, and ownership.
  • Provide, manage, and oversee technical development of team.
  • Effectively listen to and encourage input and ideas from staff
