Reporting to the General Manager, the Human Resources & Health & Safety Generalist is Steelway’s hands-on resource for supporting people practices, fostering healthy culture, and strengthening health and safety. Working closely with plant leadership, employees and the broader Ardent HR team, this role provides practical HR and Health & Safety support across the full employee lifecycle.

This is a broad and exciting position for an experienced HR practitioner who can move confidently between the plant floor and leadership discussions, exercise sound independent judgment and consistent workplace practices. The successful candidate will be visible throughout the workplace and will play an important role in strengthening employee trust, engagement and safety culture.

The base salary range for this position is between $65,000 - $75,000 annually.

What You Will Do

Human Resources and Employee Relations

  • Support full-cycle recruitment and onboarding for plant and office positions.
  • Identify and address emerging employee relations concerns before they escalate.
  • Coach leaders on attendance, performance, conduct, progressive discipline and workplace concerns.
  • Conduct or support fair and timely workplace investigations.
  • Coordinate accommodations, medical leaves and return-to-work plans.
  • Maintain employee records and prepare contracts, change letters and offboarding documentation.
  • Provide guidance on Ontario employment, human rights, privacy and workplace requirements.

Health & Safety

  • Support Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, inspections and action tracking.
  • Coordinate daily administration and improvement of Steelway’s Health & Safety program.
  • Maintain policies, procedures, training records, inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Lead or support incident, injury, near-miss and hazard investigations, including corrective actions.
  • Coordinate safety training and address compliance gaps.
  • Support accommodations and safe return-to-work planning.
  • Maintain a visible plant floor presence and coach employees and leaders on safe-work expectations.

Employee Association and Workplace Culture

  • Support the relationship between leadership and the Steelway Employee Association representatives.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Steelway Employee Association and Leadership.
  • Build relationships across departments, shifts and levels of the organization.
  • Support employee communication, recognition, engagement and culture initiatives.
  • Monitor workplace feedback and recommend actions that improve trust, morale and retention.

What You Will Need

  • 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience, including workplace Health & Safety responsibilities and employee relations.
  • Experience supporting employees and leaders in manufacturing, industrial, construction, skilled trades or a comparable operational environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Occupational Health & Safety, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Practical knowledge of Ontario employment, human rights and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience with workplace incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Strong independent judgment and the ability to manage sensitive matters with limited direction.
  • Ability to build credibility with plant employees and production leaders.
  • CHRP or CHRL designation, or progress toward one, is an asset.
  • Union or employee-association experience is an asset but is not required.
