Role Purpose: Mechanical Designers will be responsible for carrying out a variety of engineering duties including designing, researching, and prototyping new products/designs. They will collaborate across departments on various design projects, using in-depth knowledge of the latest design trends and engineering software. This position will have a greater emphasis of simulation of the mechanical and hydraulic systems of Wolfe machines.

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Optimize design of heavy equipment components and systems by the use simulation software to model behaviour of electrohydraulic systems and well as FEA for stress analysis and CFD for fluid flow.
  • Create and update 3D models and drawings in Solidworks based on optimized designs from simulations.
  • Collaborate with engineering team and other departments (ex. Quoting, fabrication, assembly, etc.)
  • Generate original designs and design calculations.
  • Produce drawings/models/designs to current department standards within schedule and cost (hours) goals.
  • Create and maintain project/job documentation.
  • Effectively work with vendors and customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in engineering or a related field
  • Previous engineering experience, including good understanding of the following (an asset):
  • SoildWorks, SolidWorks PDM or other 3D CAD systems
  • Simulation experience, FEA, CFD, Matlab and Simulink or similar software
  • How design impacts manufacturing processes, machining, and production
  • Heavy equipment, machine and fixture design
  • Welding, fabricating, and machining as it applies to design
  • Hydraulic and Electrical systems as it applies to machine building and equipment
  • Project management experience or certification
  • Proficient computer skills, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
