Buckland is now seeking an entrepreneurial CTO to reimagine its technology stack and drive the company to its next phase of growth as a high-tech innovator in trade and logistics.

 

Position Summary

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a key leadership position and member of Buckland’s senior leadership team, responsible for delivering best-in-class, customer-focused technology, and security.

 

The CTO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or their designate, and will lead the development, technology, and cybersecurity teams providing customer facing and internal solutions. This role will be accountable for providing the vision, oversight, and execution of the organization's technology and cyber security strategy to align with strategic organizational goals and modernization objectives. 

 

They will provide support and guidance on the selection, development, and integration of technology for its internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Oversees modern software development processes and methodologies and transforms the information technology to optimize team output while building better functionality and performance into solutions
  • Responsible for technical planning, implementing an evaluation process for technical architecture and system management
  • Develops and implements the overall technology strategy for the organization, including 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year roadmaps
  • Leads the transformation of how information is distributed/communicated internally
  • Establishes strong relationships with IT providers and external vendors

  • Internal customer service: Works with multi-functional teams, including marketing, sales & service, finance, human resources, and operations to understand their needs and how to best support them

 

Technology Advancement

  • Leads the development team in the adoption and use of best practices such as Agile, and the utilization of project management, and issue/bug tracking software
  • Demonstrated ability to transform the organization to be more strategic and proactive
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and external vendors ensuring projects are staffed, budgeted, and delivered on target using internal and external resources
  • Develops and maintains an enterprise-wide strategy for all software applications
  • Develops, implements, reviews, and monitors project KPI’ deliverables to budgets
  • Responsible for data security, management, and governance in a 24/7 environment
  • Manages the product development team structure, process, and workflow to ensure the development of reliable and scalable software on-time and on-budget
  • Stays well informed of new and emerging technologies and industry trends, and makes recommendations for how they can be incorporated into the organization's technology landscape
  • Capable of overseeing/implementing improvements to systems analysis, programming, and project management activities of system-wide ERP, core applications, database management systems, and non-enterprise departmental application systems

 

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership
  • Experience in scaling technology teams who manage multiple products across multiple lines of business in a growing organization with both third party and proprietary software
  • Fifteen plus (15+) years of experience, including 5 years providing strategic and inclusive leadership of a team/organization continually demonstrating technical and leadership qualities
  • Previous experience working within rapidly growing companies & development teams
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science or a related field is required
  • Preference given to Post Graduate Accreditation
  • Experience in implementing and adhering to the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL-4) framework
  • Authentic, open, and engaging leadership style that fosters collaboration, credibility, and accountability
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft technology stack in the context of mid-market deployment, ensuring a solid understanding of Project Management fundamentals
  • Experience with advanced data analytics and Power BI preferred
  • Highly analytical and able to solve problems in complex systems
  • Opportunity to work in a hybrid work environment with the expectation of regular travel to Buckland’s Corporate Office, and satellite offices located in Canada, US, and Mexico.
