SUMMARY

The Industrial Electrician will be part of the facilities and maintenance team and will be responsible to lead electrical tasks. They will plan, install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment and parts. They will be responsible for liaising with the Electrical Safety Authority and to ensure compliance with current Ontario electrical code. They will be required to fill out and maintain all required paperwork and documentation, including but not limited to the electrical logbook; in accordance with current legislation.

The Industrial Electrician will be expected to provide input into system design, installation and coordination, and to advise management in regards to the Electrical components of projects. The Industrial Electrician will be responsible to perform quality testing and inspections and to provide training and coaching to the Electrical Apprentice.

JOB DUTIES

  • Plan, lay-out, assemble, install, test, troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in buildings and other structures
  • Liaise with the Electrical Safety Authority in a professional manner to ensure all electrical practices are compliant with current Ontario electrical code and legislation
  • Complete reports and maintain all required records, paperwork and documentation, including but not limited to the electrical logbook; in accordance with current legislation and Company Standard operating Procedures
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance and repair techniques
  • Installs system components and wiring in compliance with the NEC, NESC, NFPA and the UFC
  • Observe safety procedures and protocol and wear required PPE at all times
  • Perform quality testing and inspect electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with codes and specifications
  • Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations
  • Direct, coach, and train electrical apprentice on electrical practices including but not limited to: install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Reviews blueprints and specifications; ensures drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use
  • Rough and finish wiring and control systems . Construct, maintain and repair electrical control panels
  • Prepare materials lists and coordinate shipment of materials and supplies required for electrical work to the job sites
  • Proposes changes or modifications to plans to enhance operation and efficiency of systems
  • Schedules critical and non-critical activities effectively for project success
  • Ensures accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects to code
  • Provides technical Assistance/Emergency Response of existing facilities electrical systems
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
  • Other assigned work as required

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of five year apprenticeship program
  • Government Trade Certification
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Working at Heights Training Certificate
  • Automation & PLC competence an asset
  • Electrical experience in a greenhouse or agricultural setting considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Use hand tools and power tools

Work Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
  • Travel to all Company locations required
  • Safety equipment will be required and provided, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.

  • Some weekend work may be required

  • Work both indoors and outdoors
