Job Description
Foundry/Remelt Operator
This position is located in Strathroy, ON.
Overview

Our maintenance people are an integral part of our manufacturing family.
Purpose
To produce magnesium ingots in a safe and efficient manner through a recycling process.
Responsibilities
- Unloadscrap from trailers and load bays using a skid steer loader
- Monitor all pieces of equipment, such as scrap conveyor, skip hoist, melt furnace, transfer tube, refining furnace, delivery pump and ingot cast line
- Be able to operate the recycle cell with-in process parameters, and adjust as necessary to produce quality ingots
- Comfortable working in high temperatures while drossing (removal of molten metal from foundry pot) 3-4 times per shift
- Move and empty dross bins, and stack dross blocks. (50-100lbs)
- Complete process paperwork on a daily basis
- Perform metal analysis using a spectrometer
- Move material with a lift truck
- Other duties as required, including special projects as they arise.
- Stack ingots and metal band, label, record details on the Ingot Tracking Sheet and paint four corners to accurately identify the alloy produced by the previous shift. About 4-6 bundles, which weigh a total of 15,000 lbs.
- Stacked bundles are transported by Lift truck from the stacking area by a licensed driver to the storage area.
- Document and load ingot stacks into transport truck
- Any substandard ingots are to be removed during the stacking process. Dirty ingot weights are to be recorded
- Transfer scrap from trailers to the inside storage bays and load scrap conveyor with scrap using the skid steer loader (must be properly trained to operate skid steer loader before operating with training provided in-house)
- Other responsibilities as required, including special projects as they arise
Skills/Experience
- Must be knowledgeable/ willing to learn the safe handling of molten magnesium
- Must have an excellent safety record
- Manufacturing experience with knowledge of recycle operations
- Prior experience driving a forklift or skid-steerer
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of company policies & procedures.
Shift Schedule
The Meridian team offers a unique shift schedule which provides 2 paid weeks off, ever 5 weeks. To support a 365 day, 24 hour 7 day our remelt team are scheduled:
- Every 5 weeks
- 5 Day shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 7am - 3pm | Weekend Off
- 5 Afternoon Shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 3pm - 11pm | Weekend Off
- 5 Midnight Shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 11pm - 7am | 2 Midnight Shifts Saturday - Sunday, 12 hours, 11pm - 11am
- 5 Days Off, Monday - Friday | 2 Afternoon Shifts Saturday - Sunday, 12 hours 11am - 11pm
- 7 Days Off
The two 12 hour shifts constitute 40 hours of pay.
