Cost Accountant

COST ACCOUNTANT
Reporting to the Cost and HDPE Accounting Manager, the Cost Accountant has inventory and cost accounting responsibilities, encompassing inventory counts, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and financial controls. The Cost Accountant works closely with both senior Finance and Operational leadership to monitor and provide understanding of business results.
Responsibilities include:
- Determine and update standard costs and investigate variances in estimated costs vs actual costs;
- Perform inventory counts, including travel to locations within Canada;
- Identify, analyze and investigate inventory count variances;
- Gather and analyze financial data;
- Review and approve invoice coding and transactions;
- Prepare and maintain costing schedules;
- Perform monthly and weekly inventory and related financial reports;
- Active participation in the month-end/year-end closure process and annual audit;
- Participate in the annual budgeting and forecasts during the year.
This role requires:
- 5+ years progressive accounting experience, preferably in the manufacturing iindustry
- Post secondary education with an Accounting or Finance focus.
- A CPA designation (or near completion).
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Requirements and Practices
- Understanding of data privacy standards.
- Intermediate to advance Excel knowledge
- Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations
- Superior interpersonal skills, integrity and honesty
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates confidence and a collaborative attitude with all team members.
- Ability to effectively balance priorities and ensure all documents are produced accurately and to specification in a timely manner.
- Effectively works independently with minimal direction.
- Maintains confidentiality of records and information.
- Attention to detail and high level of mental concentration.
- Ability to travel within Canada.
- Strong organization ability.
