Our facility in London, Ontario is currently recruiting candidates for the position of Stationary Engineer/Powerhouse Shift Engineer. This is a unionized position in a continuous operation facility.

 

“Shift Engineer” means an operating engineer who has charge of and operates a plant under the direction and supervision of a chief operating engineer and who has the authority to perform the powers and duties of the chief operating engineer when the chief operating engineer is absent from the plant (Ontario Regulation 219/01 Operating Engineers).

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements:

  • Minimum 2nd Class Operating Engineer certificate valid in province of Ontario.
  • Experience related to Cogeneration, Gas Turbines, HRSG’s, steam operation, compressed air, water treatment system in a manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure all safety requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and/or within a team environment to support operational needs.
  • The ability to work on a 12-hour rotational shift schedule in a 24/7 continuous operation facility.
  • The ability to perform work of varying physical demands, including temperature, heights and posture.
  • This position will occasionally be needed to off load trucks of process aids and maintenance materials.
  • Operation of the Cogen plant – 3 5MW units with Solar Gas Turbines and 80,000PPH Deltak HRSG’s with duct burners.
  • Operation of water treatment system – reverse osmosis and nano units, softeners, boiler feed water system, condensate return system and chemical feed systems.
  • Operation of plant air system – four oil free compressors, 1- heated regenerative desiccant air drier and 1-MD dryer.
  • Operation of plant cooling water systems and city water booster pump system.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the Power plant and all work activities in plant during shift.
  • Monitor and apply operational skills in maximizing energy production, including the application of problem solving.
  • Ensure supply of steam, electricity, air and water to process is always maintained.
  • Operate equipment safely and reliable, in accordance with O. Reg. 219/01.
  • Start-up, shutdown and operating of a facility consistent with Company procedures, provincial regulations and sound engineering principles.
  • Review and make corrections as necessary to water treatment issues within the plant.
  • Perform required testing on equipment and systems (water treatment, oil sampling, boiler controls, etc.) to ensure all safety systems are fully functional at all time.
  • Report any problems or serious needs that should be addressed to pass on to relieving Shift personnel.
  • Maintain logbook as required by Operating Engineer’s Act.
  • Provide expert troubleshooting input including trend and activity log analysis.
  • Monitor and do inventory on powerhouse equipment, chemicals, and supplies.
  • Monitor fire system – report deficiencies as found.
  • Control and authorize any work, testing during shift operation.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance procedures and outage schedules.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and/or apply field execution of various safety functions (lockout / tag out, confined space), maintenance, and operation activities.
  • Use of PLC's and DCS systems as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Attend and participate in training as required.
  • Always maintain good manufacturing practices (GMP).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate with plant personnel, process supervisors, maintenance personnel, and plant operators.

 

Assets:

  • Familiar with SAP CMMS work orders.
  • Basic instrumentation troubleshooting skills.
  • Fundamental electrical knowledge including electrical disconnects and the LOTO procedures.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, WHMIS.
  • Forktruck and manlift equipment certifications.
