Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Controls Design Engineer at Sodecia GTAC. The Controls Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, specification, programming, simulation, testing, and stat-up assistance for industrial automation projects. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, develop control strategies, program PLCs, conduct testing, and provide technical support. The Controls Design Engineer will also participate in project planning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of control system design, PLC programming, and HMI development
  • Experience in industrial automation, process control, and machine safety
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagram
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and control panel layout
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug control systems
  • Knowledge of robotics, vision systems, and motion control
  • Design and develop electrical schematics and control systems within SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Develop, install, and teach all PLC programming as required.
  • Identify and research electrical components for the project to ensure they meet requirements.
  • Build projects as designed.
  • Maintain and modify existing systems.
  • Work collaboratively with internal staff to ensure the success of all projects.
  • Understanding and ensuring compliance with the health and safety regulations and quality standards of the country in which work is undertaken.
  • Ensure company machinery guidelines are followed.
  • Work in conjunction with manufacturing to review designs, confirming accuracy and identifying ways to optimize the system.
  • Accept responsibility and a level of accountability proportionate to the seniority of the position.
  • Perform other duties as required from time to time by your manager.

Education

  • College-Level Electrical Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position and/or working with or launching programs in the automotive or related industry.
  • Understanding of all aspects related to the manufacturing of automotive stamping, welding, processing, and automation.
  • Good understanding of the production environment, good analytical and math skills
  • Design and layout, bill of materials, and wiring schematic capabilities.
  • Experience in PLC logic and programming with PLC's, such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Beckhoff
  • Proficiency with electrical circuits and functions
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication, with excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team setting and ask for the expertise of others when needed.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and maintaining timing deadlines.
