Job Overview
BLES Biochemicals is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Visual Inspector on a casual basis to ensure the quality and safety of drug product vials. Reporting to the Quality Manager and the Lead Inspector, you will perform visual inspections of finished product vials to detect critical, major, or minor defects in accordance with BLES policies and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).Although casual in scheduling (maximum twice weekly, approximately 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM), this position plays a vital role in our quality assurance process—serving as the final visual quality check before product release for a vulnerable patient population.
Key Responsibilities
- Visual Inspection: Visually inspect all vials of drug product lots for defects within designated timeframes (up to 30 seconds per vial maximum; 1.5 hours per 144-vial basket).
- Documentation & Setup: Perform setup, vial reconciliation, proper box labelling, accurate defect recording, and end-of-shift cleanup. Properly document full vial inspections and defects found.
- GMP & SOP Adherence: Read, understand, and strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) set by BLES.
- Training: Attend and complete mandatory GMP/GDP and WHMIS training regularly.
- Teamwork & Professionalism: Maintain punctuality, communicate effectively, collaborate productively with team members, and show respect to all BLES employees.
- Vigilance: Maintain high attention to detail, focus, and observational vigilance throughout the workday.
Qualification & Requirements
- Language Skills: Proficient reading and writing skills in English.
- Quality & Vision Qualification: Must pass an annual visual inspection qualification test, successfully identify defects in annual test vial sets, and undergo regular optometric exams.
- Key Skills: High attention to detail, strong time management skills, teamwork, strong written communication for documentation, and the visual acuity to identify small specks or fibres in drug products.
- Physical & Mental Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods, endure extended eye focus/strain, and maintain continuous focused concentration.
