This is an in-person position located in Strathroy, ON.

 

Primary Purpose of Position

Reporting directly to the Global Human Resources Director with secondary reporting to the Plant Manager, the position holder is responsible for providing human resource expertise and guidance to ensure that adequate human resources planning, staffing, training and development, compensation, and employee evaluation take place so customer needs can be met in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

 

Education and Personal Competencies

  • Minimum of 5 years in senior HR positions in manufacturing, ideally automotive.
  • Experience in all assets of HR including Payroll, Health and Safety, Training, Benefits Management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or similar, CHRP/ CHRL preferred.
  • Initiative, coupled with a sense of competitive drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions, is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job.
  • Because environmental and organizational conditions change rapidly, the work involves innovation and creativity in generating ideas for quick response.
  • Decision-making is focused on implementing practical, timely solutions.
  • The position requires getting things done quickly and efficiently whilst handling a variety of activities.
  • Self-assurance and the confidence to purposely drive toward results while constantly problem-solving and engaging the commitment of others is essential.

Major Responsibilities of Position

  • Employee Relations: Developing effective and efficient human resources policies and practices designed to meet employee needs.
  • Ensuring legislative and customer compliance to prevent work interruptions and minimize costs.
  • Provide effective communication channels to ensure company & employee concerns are heard & acted upon.
  • Keeping the teams aware of impending changes to employment, safety and environmental legislation and providing analysis of the impact of such legislation.
  • Recruiting and Training: Support the recruiting program for selection by responding to the needs of the business and assessing manpower for the plant.
  • Developing and implementing training plans to give necessary skills to employees.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Maintaining cordial relationships with government agencies.
  • Leading the local HR team comprising of Payroll and Benefits administration, Training, Recruiting, Health Safety and Environmental functions and HR General.
  • Generating reports to keep the teams aware of employment issues i.e. overtime, staffing, and attendance and assisting in the management of the various employment issues as they arise.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining an effective performance evaluation program that results in appropriate compensation practices.
  • Documenting the roles, responsibility and reporting structure with regards to all personnel responsible for a plant activity to which there is an associated significant environmental impact is documented
  • Employee Benefits and Payroll – support annual review of entire benefits plan, including financials. Support changes or modifications to existing policies.
  • Support Payroll functions, RRSP, approvals, payouts etc. in accordance with legislation.
  • Environmental Management Team: Responsible for ensuring continuous improvement by reviewing objectives and targets and internal/external customer concerns; reviewing audit results and EMS programs elements and establishing action items and recommendations in accordance to ISO 14001 standards.
  • Reporting on the performance of the environmental management system to top management for review and as a basis for improvement of the environment management system
  • Record and maintain minutes from the management review meetings
  • Responsible for development, review and updates for the EMS documentation system.
  • Health and Safety: Championing the Occupational H&S process with effective policies and programs that will meet legislative requirements and company needs.
  • Other responsibilities as required, including special projects as they arise.
