Mechanical Engineering Technologist
Givens Machine Systems Inc. is looking for a mechanical engineering technologist to assemble and install custom machinery.
We manufacture cranes, manipulators and custom machinery and employ engineers, designers, sales staff, welders, machinists, electricians and assemblers. Our equipment, which is almost always unique to the project at hand, is installed all over Canada and the US. We share our London building with our parent company, Givens Engineering.
We’re looking for an energetic, motivated technologist who can:
-interpret and understand machine drawings
-co-ordinate the manufacture of parts with welders and machinists
-assemble custom machines, cranes, manipulators, grippers and other equipment
-learn pneumatic logic and connect complex valve assemblies
-troubleshoot pneumatic and mechanical systems in our shop and at our customers’ plants
-confer with machine designers on-the-fly to diagnose and correct problems
-create lists of parts with purchasers and integrate those parts into complex machines
-travel anywhere in Canada to help install equipment
-act as a project leader to bring a machine together in spite of difficulties and setbacks
The skills you would need:
-a mechanical technologist or technician (or equivalent) 2-year or 3-year diploma
-experience with building new equipment would be welcome
-experience with fixing machinery would be an asset
-experience with welding or machining would be very helpful!
-a gung-ho, can-do attitude is essential
This is not a desk job! You would be on your feet assembling machinery, solving problems and co-ordinating with other skilled trades 95% of your day.
The machinery can range from simple to extremely complex, and you would be encouraged to work your way up. Work is usually straight days with weekends off, but weekend work and overtime occur frequently. Often you would also be expected to install the equipment you build, which often happens on weekends and usually involves travel within Ontario.
We offer an RRSP matching pension, health benefits and profit sharing (profit sharing after a period of service). We value a long-term relationship that will continue for years, starting with extensive training and gradually working toward increasingly challenging projects.
