Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Assembly Technician to join our growing team.
In this role, you will assemble mechanical components for prosthetic devices, support production processes, coordinate shipping and logistics, and ensure that products meet Vessl’s quality standards.
As a startup, this role requires someone who is comfortable wearing multiple hats. You will work closely with our engineering and operations teams to assemble products, manage outgoing shipments, and support production logistics. There will be significant learning on the job, and we are looking for someone proactive, organized, and eager to take ownership of their work.
Because we are an early-stage company, processes are still evolving. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys building systems, improving workflows, and stepping in wherever needed to help the team succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Assembly & Production
- Assemble mechanical components and prosthetic device systems according to established procedures and engineering documentation.
- Use hand tools, fixtures, and basic shop equipment to perform precise assembly tasks.
- Follow detailed assembly instructions, drawings, and work instructions.
- Track and document assembly activities to support production records and traceability.
Shipping and logistics
- Prepare products for shipment, including packaging, labeling, and documentation.
- Print shipping labels and coordinate outgoing shipments with courier partners.
- Track shipments and maintain accurate records of outgoing orders.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with shipping providers and help ensure products are delivered on schedule.
- Coordinate with internal teams to prioritize orders and meet production and shipping deadlines.
- Experience preparing shipments, printing shipping labels, or coordinating courier pickups (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) is an asset.
Quality & Inspection
- Inspect components and finished assemblies to ensure they meet Vessl’s quality standards.
- Identify and report defects or inconsistencies in parts or assemblies.
- Support quality control processes and documentation.
Manufacturing Support
- Maintain organized workspaces and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
- Support inventory organization and materials preparation for production runs.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to improve assembly processes and production efficiency.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering and operations teams to support product manufacturing and fulfillment.
- Provide feedback on assembly processes to help improve manufacturability and efficiency.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, production, or a similar hands-on technical environment.
- Experience assembling mechanical products or devices is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and follow assembly instructions and engineering drawings.
- Experience using hand tools and basic assembly equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to track orders, shipments, and production tasks.
- Hands-on experience assembling mechanical products, equipment, bicycles, medical devices, automotive components, or similar systems is strongly preferred.
Soft Skills
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership.
- Comfortable wearing multiple hats in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Nice to Have:
Experience with quality assurance or quality control processes, particularly in manufacturing or medical device environments.
Familiarity with quality management systems (such as ISO 13485).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move items up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
