DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interview, hire and oversee training of staff.

Develops annual departmental manpower and expense budgets. Works in cooperation with the Plant Manager, and other Functional managers to develop the plant’s annual capital budget. Determines new equipment and training needs of the engineering function in support of new project requirements and job descriptions. Plan, administer, and control budgets for contracts, equipment and supplies.

Directly supervises the plant’s Maintenance & Engineering functions. Serves as a point of reference for all functions as it relates to tooling design, engineering change requests, and training requirements.

Recruit, organize, direct and control the skilled and semi-skilled trades of union personnel and oversee their training.

Direct Maintenance repair of the facility’s machinery, equipment and electrical and mechanical systems.

May participate in the design, development and inspection of technical project or in the engineering work of the department.

Works in cooperation with Sales, R&D Engineering, and the Business Units in evaluating, developing, and implementing new technology which is a result of new product and process development and the plant’s continuous improvement initiatives to improve the plant’s quality and financial performance.

Works as part of a cross-functional team to review internal and external quality performance, implement corrective action as required, and support continuous improvement initiatives to improve product quality and reduce scrap.

Plan and facilitate major civil projects such as buildings, waste management and structural steel fabrications.

Oversee the direction of the lock stores department and ensure the proper maintenance of their inventory to meet production needs.

Ensures proper planning is in place to meet the Business Unit’s expectations for new job start up and the customer demands for seamless job launches for new programs and engineering changes. Manages processes, procedures, and methods used to ensure consistent development of specifications and tooling.

Ensure construction plans meet guidelines and specifications of building codes and other regulations.

Directs and oversees all plant engineering presentations to the customers/plant visitors.

Engineering Manager shall ensure loss control concepts are considered in the design, development, operation and maintenance of facility equipment, processes and workstations.

Responsible for performing and managing above duties in compliance with TS-16949 and ISO-14001 requirements.

Participate in Lean Enterprise activities and supply support personnel to help execute Lean initiatives.

Analyze information system requirements and performance and develop and implement new and modified systems.

Approve requisition orders to replenish parts, supplies and materials.

Approve requisition orders to replenish materials, equipment and stock.

Ensure research is being carried out into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanisms, components and systems, to improve plant profitability.

Participation in the design of power plants, machines, components, tools, fixtures and equipment.

Help develop maintenance standards, schedules and programs and provide guidance to industrial maintenance.

Help conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of electrical generation and distribution networks, electrical machinery and components and electronic communications, instrumentation and control systems, equipment, and components.

Ensure proper investigation is done on any electrical or electronic failures.

Study new machinery and facilities and recommend or select efficient combinations.

Develop flexible or integrated manufacturing systems and procedures.

Determine human resource and skill requirements and develop training programs.

Establish programs and conduct studies to enhance industrial health and safety or to identify and correct fire and other hazards.

Develop and prepare design sketches.

Write technical reports.

Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments.

Facilitate training of staff in job duties, safety procedures and company policies.

Oversee setting up of machines and equipment.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Engineering certificate or degree or equivalent work experience.

Certified industrial millwright or electrician an asset.

Minimum 3 years experiences as a Maintenance Manager in automotive manufacturing environment preferred.

Strong maintenance and preventative maintenance knowledge.

Knowledge of our process and machinery required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong understanding of our mechanical processes.
