JOB DESCRIPTION: LEGAL COUNSEL - CONTRACTS AND LITIGATION

A Legal Counsel at Aspire will be highly skilled and experienced in providing expert legal guidance on contract matters and litigation-related work. This part-time role is critical in ensuring that all contractual agreements align with Aspire’s business objectives while mitigating potential legal risks. The Legal Counsel will also work on litigation matters related to disputes and will collaborate closely with various departments to draft, review, and negotiate contracts.

SHIFT STRUCTURE

This role offers flexible working hours, with an expectation of 5 to 10 hours of work per week, depending on project demands.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert legal advice on contract interpretation, negotiation, enforcement, and litigation.
  • Handle litigation-related work, including managing disputes, assessing potential legal risks, and providing litigation strategy in contract-related matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including NDAs, supplier agreements, partnership agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Ensure all contracts are compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate potential legal risks in contractual agreements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure contracts support these objectives.
  • Support the development and implementation of contract management processes.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel as needed for litigation or complex legal matters.
  • Stay current with legal trends, regulations, and best practices relevant to the industry.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Law degree with a strong focus on contract law and litigation.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Professional experience in contract law, preferably within the food, agriculture, or manufacturing sectors, with hands-on experience in contract-related litigation.
  • Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Strong understanding of commercial law, litigation processes, and the ability to translate complex legal terms into practical business language.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Up to $275.00 per hour
