Job Summary:

  • The Assistant Production Manager will assist the production manager in establishing and achieving efficiency goals.
  • The Assistant Production Manager will also assist the Production Manager and Engineering Manager and other management in establishing short and long term action plans and communicate them to the production department to meet plant goals.
  • Confer with production supervisors to resolve worker problems, complaints, and performance issues.
  • Assists the Production manager in planning, developing, and implementing new methods, procedures, and designs to improve safety, operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials
  • Monitor and assess employee performance
  • To serve as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
  • Develop teamwork and motivate members through setting of clear expectations and recognize and reward outstanding performance

Responsibilities Associated with Performing the Job

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Production Manager in the management of subordinate supervisors within the Production Department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Increase worker efficiency and production rates
  • Active participant in SQF and ensure SQF standards are being met throughout the production facility
  • Work with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within and between departments
  • Provide feedback for production plans to assist in ensuring that production objectives are reasonable and attainable
  • Coordinate with other supervisors, leads, and managers to obtain maximum use of resources.
  • Oversee the daily production workflow of the department
  • Other duties as assigned

Food Safety

  • Monitor department equipment and employees to ensure a sanitary environment is kept and that GMP’s are adhered too.
  • Ensure that CCP (critical control points), CP (control points) and quality documents are completed at the scheduled frequency, either by other properly trained team members or themselves.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Administrative

  • Maintain and adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Work within the ERP system, and both manually and electronically maintain inventory of goods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge/Experience Required to Perform the Job

  • Minimum 3 years progressive experience in manufacturing (Food Production an asset)
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills, demonstrated through previous experience
  • Must be self-motivated, results oriented, possess a high degree of initiative, and work well under pressure
  • Strong written, oral communication and mathematical skills
  • Proficient multi-tasker with strong organization skills
  • Promotes teamwork and works well in a team environment
  • Adaptable to change
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Working Conditions

  • Must wear PPE while on production and warehouse floor including safety shoes, hair and/or beard nets, hard hats, high visibility vests and company uniform
  • Work is performed in a combination of environments.
  • This position may be exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odours, fumes and oils.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 25kg or 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Overtime as required.
