Supplier Quality Engineering

Primary Purpose of Position

Reporting to the Meridian Strathroy Quality Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the development and maintenance of supplier quality systems in line with IATF 16949. The role is pivotal in Advanced Development, Continuous Improvement and maintenance of Supplier Quality Systems of the Meridian Strathroy supply base supporting Meridian globally as needed.

Major Responsibilities of Position

  • Lead: Assisting/champion the Development and Implementation of Quality Systems including Control Plans, Measurement Systems Analysis, Instructions, FMEA's, DOE’s and management system documents and procedures both internally and with our supply base.
  • Quality: Manage supplier measurement issues including gauge design and methods, and production GR&R approval/analysis. Pursuing resolution of internal and external quality issues. Be involved in the process of the measurement of parts on lab and layout equipment where necessary. Promoting the implementation and effective use of quality systems and techniques including management system documents and procedures sharing Meridian best-practice where possible. Ensure successful completion of annual supplier GR&R, CP and FMEA reviews where required. Completing in comping part inspection check when away from auditing.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze data and information from various information sources as a resource for problem resolution to provide accurate information based on team decisions. Involved in requested layout support, reviewing data, following tooling progressions and changes. Monitor plant process performance reacting as necessary to undesirable conditions with our supply base.
  • Reporting: First line of communication of any supplier based risk issues that could negatively impact Meridian or customer requirements escalating to the applicable location Quality Manager as appropriate.
  • Communication: Act as the liaison, when required, between the supplier and plant team to ensure that issues are resolved with urgency, mutual consent and satisfaction. Facilitate and coordinate meetings to address customer complaints with our supply base, providing necessary information to facilitate team decisions. Facilitate discussions and actively participate in APQP process both internally and externally.
  • Customer Service: Front line reaction to Customer Quality complaints where supplier action is required. Ensuring that customer concerns are properly dealt with utilizing problem solving tools and Corrective Actions (CA’s). Interfacing with the supplier to maintain a full and accurate information flow. Work with suppliers in a supplier development capacity.
  • Training: Train supply team members in quality systems and procedures. Encouraging use and understanding of the quality tools and systems in production including SPC and CAs. Work with the supply team to ensure all plant goals are met, promoting customer satisfaction.
  • Documentation: Analyzing, documenting and reporting issues of customer returns. Supplier PPAP preparation, approval and submission, Product Engineering, Engineering changes, run at rate when required to support Meridian product launches and engineering changes.
  • Other duties as required, including special projects as they arise.

  • OEM Customer Contacts – Contact program specific OEM STA personnel to secure quality concern details and coordinate PPAP activities and approvals.
  • Production employees and Quality Techs- ensure correct information is passed on regarding part information, quality standards, and any changes to existing quality procedures.
  • Gauge Builders – Coordinate gauge building activities and compliance to Meridian requirements.
  • All Meridian personnel, maintaining positive employment relationships.
 

Personal Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Attributes):

  • Microsoft Office Professional with advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience in the use of an ERP system (e.g. Plex, SAP, Oracle).
  • Advanced presentation, communication and customer service skills.
  • Time/priority management skills to meet or exceed targets for launch activities and managing multiple projects.

Educational and Certification Background

  • Quality Engineering designation ASQ CSQP, CQE or equivalent (Desirable)
  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in an engineering discipline or Technical College diploma (CET or similar) (Essential)
  • A Minimum of 5 years’ supplier quality assurance experience within automotive/aerospace manufacturing. (Highly Desirable)
  • Six Sigma Green belt (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of die casting processes (or similar i.e. injection molding, stamping etc) (Desirable)
  • Certified ISO/IATF Lead Supplier Auditor Certification or Certified ISO/IATF Internal Auditor (Essential)
