The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the London Plant Manager is a key member of the leadership team accountable for ensuring that the Glen Dimplex Americas London Manufacturing facility consistently meets business needs and expectations.

The Plant Manager sets an appropriate example, coaches and guides individuals and teams, and effectively collaborates cross functionally to achieve organizational goals and results. They ensure that the London facility consistently manufactures required products in a safe, cost-effective, and high-quality manner. The Manager oversees all production operations, manufacturing engineering, plant-level purchasing and materials management, maintenance, and local facilities.

 

In this role you will:

  • Manage and coordinate all factory operations to ensure timely and cost-effective production, ensuring that all plant operations adhere to company policies.
  • Advocate for the safety of all employees in the building, ensuring that the safety committee is being run in a responsible, proactive manner. Ensure that all relevant local and federal statutes for safety, quality, and environmental standards are fully satisfied at all times.
  • Develop annual plant operating budgets, monitor, manage, and report operating costs against budgets, and act to communicate, understand, and mitigate overruns.
  • Ensure production output is aligned to planning requirements and manufactured to product specifications. Manage the master production schedule, coordinating activities to efficiently utilize plant assets to meet required production volumes.
  • Develop and manage plant production capacity models.
  • Leverage Lean Manufacturing methods and techniques to champion continuous improvement in all aspects of operations, including but not limited to scrap reduction, equipment utilization and labour efficiency. Support and drive VAVE activities.
  • Maintain and protect plant assets and equipment through preventative maintenance. Ensure all tooling and equipment is maintained in a safe and effective operating order.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on labor issues, safety, security, employee relations, hiring, scheduling, training, and strategic management.
  • Ensure that MRO and raw materials are purchased and pipelined to support production requirements, and that plant level inventories are managed and controlled. Manage plant-level shipping, receiving, and transportation logistics.
  • Interface with the local facility landlord representatives to address building and grounds issues and concerns.
  • Produce and maintains operational dashboard and reports.
  • Partner with and benchmark against other manufacturing sites to share best practices and drive consistent manufacturing operations across Glen Dimplex Americas facilities.

Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Manages plant supervisors, area managers, plant support staff including purchasing, planning, engineering and maintenance, and all production workers in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, execution, coordination, and evaluation of facility activity.

What You Need

  • Mechanical/industrial engineering or related major, or equivalent combination of education and experience, including 5 or more years’ experience managing a manufacturing plant and large manufacturing teams.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of industrial engineering, human resources laws and regulations, and employee relations skills required.
  • Advanced knowledge of value stream mapping, value stream analysis, visual management, standardized work, 5S, quick changeover (SMED), TPM & Kanban. Demonstrated leadership ability to create a dynamic organization that is continuously improving and learning how to identify waste, reduce costs, and drive problem solving to every level of the organization.
  • A history of partnering with internal stakeholders in an open and collaborative manner.
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and drive an operational culture that reflects a sense of urgency.
  • A willingness to get into the details to seek out issues and opportunities.
  • SAP experience would be considered an asset.
