ABOUT US:

We are a climate controlled Japanese Automotive Parts Manufacturer in the St. Thomas, ON region and are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and qualified Tool & Die Maker to assist with performance of tooling inspections, repairs, maintenance, and modifications of machinery and equipment. The successful candidate will have past and present experience working with transfer and progressive tooling and will be responsible for providing functional and specialized support in the execution of all facets of the trade, including performing tooling inspections, die repairs, maintenance, and modification of machinery and equipment.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma with a Certificate of Qualification as a licensed Tool & Die Maker
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience troubleshooting progressive & transfer dies in a Stamping environment
  • A thorough understanding of relevant machinery and equipment including overhead cranes, welding, and metal cutting equipment
  • Tig and Mig welding experience would be considered an asset
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment and support continuous improvement activities

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

  • General maintenance on dies including sharpening, polishing, and replacing broken and worn parts
  • Set up, operate, adjust, repair and maintain equipment
  • Design new tools to replace broken/worn out tools through machining, heat treating, finish grinding and trial fitting
  • Machine and fabricate improvements to dies to suit engineering changes to parts based on direction from the customer
  • Machine and fabricate parts for other departments (e.g. welding jigs and fixtures)
  • Perform calculations for tool and die procedures
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, component prints, assembly part drawings
  • Troubleshooting to produce quality parts by way of press calls and die repair tags

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Interacts daily with all hourly Team Members on shift
  • Daily interaction with other departments (Weld, Press, etc.)
  • Accountable to the Tool & Die Specialist/Coordinator

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning, analytical and organizational skills combined with automotive sense of urgency
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety Regulations and Safety Codes
  • Able to work rotating shifts and extended work hours
  • Ability to work without supervision

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Required to work shift(s) as scheduled.
