Position Overview:

The Director, Safety & Compliance will oversee all aspects of operational safety and compliance within the organization. The ideal candidate will manage both people and processes, implementing systems, policies and practices that foster a culture of safety and minimize incidents.

 

Responsibilities:

· Work with other departments, collaborating with HR, operations and maintenance to integrate safety standards into all fleet management aspects.

· Conduct regular audits and inspections of vehicles and safety procedures to ensure ongoing compliance and identify areas for improvement.

· Maintain thorough records of accidents, incidents and safety training to ensure transparency and facilitate any necessary legal or insurance claims.

· Utilize technology, including GPS and ISAAC telematics, to monitor driver behaviour and coach drivers on safety practices.

· Guide and lead others in all matters surrounding the safe operations of a commercial vehicle.

· Ensure compliance with USA DOT regulations, the Canadian Highway Traffic Act, CTPAT and border crossing regulations.

· Act as a key point of contact for any over-the-road incidents, responding to inquiries professionally and promptly.

· Oversee the safety and compliance team (Safety Administrator and Fleet Administrator) in training drivers about speed, HOS/ELOG compliance, licensing, and safety.

· Manage and take responsibility for maintaining high-performance ratings in relation to various provincial and US safety and compliance entities, including the FMCSA and Provincial CVOR.

· Maintain thorough records of accidents, incidents and safety training to ensure transparency and facilitate any necessary legal or insurance claims.

 

Qualifications and Competencies:

· 5+ years of experience in the transportation industry.

· Educational background in logistics, business, or a related field.

· Commitment to driver safety and compliance.

· Proven leadership and communication skills.

· Comprehensive experience with incident investigation and determination of causation.

· Excellent knowledge of USA DOT rules and the Canadian Highway Traffic Act.

· Strong with MS Office Suite and TMW software would be an asset.
