Position Summary

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Health and Safety Specialist is accountable for the implementation, monitoring and support of the development of Sofina Foods Canada’s health and safety management system and associated governance. This includes providing occupational health and safety advice to the plant operations to facilitate compliance with Sofina’s health and safety requirements, occupational health and safety legislation, guidelines, and standards to support the plant’s health and safety program and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Partner with Plant Management to provide guidance and technical support regarding specific issues related to health and safety programs, initiatives and policies.
  • Accountable for the facilitation and monitoring of the Plant Health and Safety Program to eliminate the risks causing workplace incidents and injuries.
  • Accountable for the facilitation and monitoring of a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Deliver and facilitate health and safety sessions and programs at plant sites.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to promote a safe working environment.
  • Inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure they follow safety standards and government regulations.
  • Collect and analyze statistical data pertaining to the plant’s health and safety program. Prepare reports on health and safety activities for management review.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (i.e. Operations, Engineering, and Human Resources) to ensure health and safety processes meet the needs of the end users, align to Sofina’s Blueprint, and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate accidents/incidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Accountable for identifying trends and areas of improvement and communicating with Plant Management.
  • Conduct audits to ensure safe plant operations, facilitating corrective actions with Plant Management as necessary.
  • Support the claims/case management requirements of the plant, as required.
  • Participate and provide ongoing support and guidance to the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Participate in Company health and safety initiatives (such as strategic meetings, conference calls, audits, special projects, etc.) to ensure site representation, inclusion, and consistency.
  • Accountable for identifying, developing and delivering health and safety training requirements for the workforce.
  • Work closely with management and employees to foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement in workplace practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and compliance with safety regulations.

 

Requirements

  • Degree, Diploma or Certification in a recognized Occupational Health and Safety program.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, particularly in industrial or manufacturing settings; food industry preferred.
  • Demonstrated prior experience in delivering health and safety programs.
  • Knowledge of applicable provincial safety legislation and regulations, and OHSA is required.
  • Ability to assess risks and develop effective safety strategies.
  • Advanced computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office applications).

 

 

Hiring Range: CAD $64,393 - $92,082

Bonus: This position is eligible for a bonus up to 8% of base salary subject to the plan terms and conditions.

Please note that the expected hiring range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sofina.  The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, skillset of the candidate and internal equity.
