We are seeking a Vice President for our Materials Group who is dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented to lead and drive profitability across our materials division, which includes Aggregates, Hot Mix Asphalt, and Ready-Mix Concrete operations in Southwestern Ontario. Reporting to the Chief Operating Office (COO), this leadership role will play a crucial part in managing and optimizing pricing models for both internal and external transactions, spearheading resource acquisition initiatives, and ensuring the seamless alignment of material operations with the company’s broader strategic goals.

The Vice President of J-AAR Materials Group will be expected to influence, inspire, and lead their team through broad strategic decision-making, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance to achieve business outcomes. The role offers the opportunity to think independently and act autonomously, while aligning with J-AAR’s overall vision and strategic priorities. The Vice President will be expected to consistently innovate and apply analytical, creative, and strategic thinking to solve challenges and drive continuous improvement.

How you will make an IMPACT
- Lead, guide, and manage the materials’ divisions department heads, ensuring alignment across the Material Division and with the core values of J-AAR.
- Drive the profitability of the Materials Division through operational efficiency, strategic decision-making, and effective cost management.
- As Materials Group leader, you will be responsible to represent the Materials group interest in working effectively and efficiently with the various division support functions, Business Intelligence, People and Culture, Health and Safety and Assets & Logistics.
- Oversee the creation, execution, and periodic update of the Material Group’s business plan, encompassing operational, marketing, geographic, and resource strategy.
- Align the Material Division's business plan with the CEO's overall business plan for J-AAR, ensuring mutual support and synchronization.
- Lead the Aggregate resource acquisition strategy, including closing existing leads, exploring new opportunities, and expanding fill tipping opportunities.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities typically associated with a Vice President position in a large corporation, including but not limited to performance management, budgeting, and reporting to the COO.
- Innovation: Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the Material Division, encouraging innovative ideas and initiatives that contribute to business success, environmental stewardship, sustainability, and productivity leadership.
- Risk Management: Identify and manage potential risks related to the Material Division's operations. Develop strategies to mitigate these risks and ensure business continuity.
- Supply Chain Management: Oversee the materials supply chain, ensuring efficiency and reliability. Address and resolve any supply chain issues promptly.
- Technology Integration: Identify and integrate appropriate technologies to improve efficiency and productivity across the Material Division.
- Talent Management: Develop a dedicated team by identifying talent needs, driving recruitment efforts, and ensuring the growth and development of team members through ongoing training, promotion of core values, and professional development opportunities.
- Brand Management: Uphold and enhance the reputation, brand, and core values of J-AAR through excellence in material operations.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee a robust quality assurance program to ensure that all products meet the high-quality standards set by J-AAR.
- Safety: Oversee and ensure the implementation of comprehensive safety programs and procedures across the Material Division, in compliance with OSHA or other relevant safety regulations.
How you WOW us
- A minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in the construction/materials industry.
- Bachelor's degree in business, Management, or related field (master's degree preferred).
- Proven record of accomplishment of managing large teams and making high-level strategic decisions.
- Excellent financial acumen, with experience in (>$50M) profit maximization and pricing strategies.
- Extensive experience in strategic planning and execution.
- Strong ability to drive operational efficiencies and business growth.
- Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
