Our integrated Facilities Operations Team provides excellence in creating and maintaining Western’s facilities and in serving the community.
Responsibilities
The Shipper/Receiver is responsible for the efficient and effective processing of all goods and materials ordered by Western staff. The Shipper/Receiver will verify the accuracy of orders received and resolves discrepancies with suppliers. The Shipper/Receiver ensures accurate department records are kept, monitors and maintains supplies of packaging materials for shipments and provides reports on errors and discrepancies. The Shipper/Receiver will ensure the correct distribution of trades materials and building services supplies and is responsible for the inventory control of tools and equipment from the Tool Crib. The Shipper/Receiver will process incoming and outgoing mail (parcels, envelopes, couriers etc.), applying appropriate postage and maintaining accurate billing records for Faculties/Departments. The Shipper/Receiver will pick up and deliver supplies and mail to a variety of campus buildings.
Qualifications
Education:
- 2 year Community College Certificate/Diploma in Business or a related field
Experience:
- 3 years’ experience providing customer service and working in an institutional environment with materials handling equipment
- Experience in shipping and receiving, delivery, mail/courier service, warehousing and inventory processes
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must hold a valid class G Driver’s License and a clean driving record
- Knowledge of transportation of dangerous goods processes and procedures
- Ability to lift up to 66 lbs using proper ergonomic procedures
- Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
- Ability to apply active listening to hear and understand the complete message being communicated
- Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands

- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community

- Basic proficiency required in Microsoft Office in order to prepare input departmental data in spreadsheets, other records systems
- Familiarity with software applications used by Western preferred – e.g. inventory management software
- Familiarity with Western policies and guidelines preferred
