Position Summary

We are looking for an Operating Engineer based at our London Ice Cream Factory, reporting into the Utilities Manager. This role is part of the Engineering team and will be responsible to perform various safe operation, maintenance of the factory and contribute to a safe and quality product for our consumers.

 

A day in the life of an Operating Engineer:

  • Ensure safe operation and maintenance of the factory ammonia refrigeration system, steam boilers, potable water system, compressed air system, wastewater effluent plant, fire repression and alarm system.
  • Perform shift operator/maintenance duties (four of six weeks -12 hr rotating shifts).
  • Perform maintenance duties (two of six weeks - 8 hr day shifts).
  • Employees required to work on a Sunday as an extra shift, or in excess of eight (8) hours shall be paid an additional half-time.
  • Follow SOP’s, frequently refresher train, read engineering drawings, understand and follow applicable codes and regulations.
  • Work in hot and cold environments.
  • Work with various chemicals including ammonia, nitrogen, acids and caustics.
  • Analyse problems and seek root causes.

 

What will make you successful?

  • 2nd Class Operating Engineer or higher qualification to work in our 2nd Class Ammonia Refrigeration and High-pressure Steam plant
  • Minimum of 5 years of related industrial experience
  • Ammonia refrigeration experience is preferable. 
  • Responsible decision-maker.
  • Computer experience in excel, word, maintenance management.
  • Self-starter and capable of working independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Food industry experience will be an important asset.
  • Shift rotation will be a requirement.
  • Physically fit enough to climb, pipe fit, lift 25 kg bags, walk and be on your feet for 80% of the shift.
