Position Summary
Reporting to the Controller, the Facility Cost Accountant provides financial and analytical support to the plant management. The incumbent ensures data integrity of the plant’s financial reporting in accordance with established corporate standards and requirements.
Key Accountabilities
- Prepares, reviews and analyzes daily, weekly and monthly production reports. This includes costing, inventory, yields, utility usage, labour reports in accordance with Plant Management, company policy and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Supports the plant management in the analysis of variances between actual costs occurring at the plant and standard costs, variances related to finished goods, products & raw material and impact of variances (PPV) on the plant’s financial performance and ensures accuracy of inventory;
- Responsible to assist and support plant management on various departmental initiatives ensuring ongoing analysis and identifying improvement opportunities;
- Performs product audits, to ensure that product costs accurately reflect production processes;
- Ensures reporting of month end physical counts to ensure that the production inputs are received by the plant in time for production requirements. Reconciles finished goods inventory levels (analysis of inventory, production and sales levels);
- Position provides back up support and vacation relief to the finance team and works on adhoc projects as assigned;
- Complies with and maintains approved corporate standard internal reporting requirements in the plant to ensure accurate information/clarity of the plant’s performance. Acts as a primary contact for the plant’s financial reporting and communication.
Requirements
- A diploma/degree in accounting or finance and related account reconciliation experience is required;
- 3 years experience of cost accounting within an integrated manufacturing environment;
- Pursuing an accounting designation (CPA);
- Position requires a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Able to communicate orally and in writing effectively within various departments;
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and Advanced knowledge with excel (must be strong with Pivot Tables and file linking);
- Knowledge of financial/operational database programs ERP System (experience with AS400 considered an asset).
