General description

The Configuration Management & Manufacturing Engineering Specialist is a contributor connecting engineering and manufacturing to ensure efficient processing of metallic and composite parts. The role includes technical as well as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) responsibilities.

Manufacturing engineering responsibilities: Working closely with a team of experienced engineers and manufacturing, purchasing and material planning departments, the specialist assigns and revises manufacturing routings; bills of material, selects appropriate raw material stock for parts and assists in the manufacturing planning process. The specialist communicates with both engineering and production departments to determine the most effective processing methods for all components while ensuring all applicable standards are met. Hands on experience in machining, prototyping and other manufacturing technologies is a valuable asset in this position.

Configuration management responsibilities: The specialist is responsible for the management of technical documents, such as drawings, 3D CAD data, manufacturing instructions, material specifications, and technical standards. The specialist monitors and manages engineering changes and communicates between engineering and manufacturing departments to implement them, while monitoring the process to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Training will be provided for these responsibilities.

Skills and Qualifications:

Required:

· Proficiency in interpreting technical documents such as 3D CAD data and technical drawings

· Experience with manufacturing technologies, such as milling, turning, bending, welding, heat treatment

· Proficiency in 3D CAD applications, ideally SolidWorks

· Experience with technical tolerancing standards

· Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5

· Demonstrated ability to effectively troubleshoot and solve problems

· Good communication skills, both oral and written

· Must be able to secure a secret security clearance

Desirable:

· Diploma or degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering

· Experience with product data management tools (PDM)

· Knowledge of advanced Fiber Reinforced Plastics (Glass, Carbon, Aramid)

· Knowledge of welding practices

· Experience with SolidWorks Enterprise PDM professional

· Experience with Made2Manage (M2M) ERP

· Experience working with automotive, aerospace & defense related standards (i.e. ISO 9000, AS9100, etc)

Essential Duties:

The duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to:

· Interpreting CAD models, drawings, plans and bills of material

· Creating appropriate manufacturing routings and raw material assignments

· Adding or modifying data in the ERP system

· Manage engineering data using PDM and ERP systems

· System data and BOM verification and validation between PDM and ERP systems

· Assessing and monitoring of material in stock

· Revising engineering documents to improve manufacturing efficiency

· Coordinate and review engineering change orders (ECO)

· Update ERP system with manufacturing relevant data

· Management of technical documents and standards

· Act as intermediary between engineering and manufacturing departments

· Support and maintain Technical Standards

· Chair Configuration Review Board

· Develop and document data, proposals, presentations, analysis or similar using PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

· Create and maintain technical documentation and instructions

· Conduct manufacturability assessments during development

· Support cost evaluation studies

· Liaise with other departments within the company to ensure others have the necessary information required to meet the projects requirements.

Working Conditions

· Communicates frequently with engineering and manufacturing departments by phone, email and in person

· Visits manufacturing departments to discuss or assess manufacturing related questions

· Manages competing priorities with medium-high control over individual tasks

· High levels of considerable mental concentration

· Sitting, standing and walking may be required

· Overtime may be required occasionally
