Your Impact
The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs to protect the company, employees, equipment, and facilities within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with all federal, provincial, and local safety regulations while promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization. This position will work closely with the Human Resources Department and actively work towards a culture of engagement, collaboration and trust through employee engagement and event support. Additionally, this role will support employee engagement efforts, including supporting engagement programs, member of the planning committee and attending employee events.
This position will report within the Human Resources Department but will work closely with production and operations and at times, may work on projects reporting to other key managers and directors.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program
- Ensure procedures are implemented and followed on the plant floor.
- Verify that current procedures are practical and applicable.
- Holding others accountable for compliance.
- Develop and maintain safety policies, procedures, and guidelines specific to manufacturing operations.
- Develop and maintain Job Hazard Assessments.
- Conduct regular departmental audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Analyze data to identify trends, inefficiencies, or areas for improvement.
- Support environmental awareness campaigns within the organization.
- Ensure protection for the company from artificial injury claims.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
- Maintain and own accurate records of incidents, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Prepare safety reports for management and WSIB.
Training & Education
- Conduct employee safety training sessions, including emergency procedures, PPE use, and hazard communication.
- Meet with new hires after 2 weeks on the job to go over safety tips and ensure engagement.
- Promote awareness campaigns to reinforce safe practices.
- Spend time on the manufacturing floor to build rapport with employees and create a culture of preventative actions.
Incident Investigation & Response
- Investigate workplace accidents and near-misses to determine root causes.
- Recommend corrective actions and follow up to ensure implementation.
Continuous Improvement
- Contributing member to Environmental annual audits (HIGGS Questionnaire and SMETA Audit).
- Identify potential hazards and propose improvements to reduce risk.
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure safe machinery and equipment use.
- other projects assigned by team leads.
What You Bring
Education & Credentials
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field - preferred
- Certifications such as CRSP, NEBOSH, or COR - required
- High Emotional Intelligence - required
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a safety role - required
- Experience in the Food Industry – preferred

- Competitive Compensation: Salary reflecting your experience and qualifications from $60,000-$80,000 annually, plus annual incentive plan that can pay between 0-20% in addition to your base salary.

Working Conditions
