POSITION SUMMARY
- Ensure customer’s requirements are met and that testing is carried out in an efficient and controlled manner.
- To provide Metallurgical and technical support to internal and external customers.
DUTIES
To provide metallurgical support by:
- Performing metallurgical analysis of all products as required
- If evaluation shows parts outside of specification, follows Containment and Corrective Action procedures outlined in IATF 16949 documentation. Whenever possible, initiates line-side problem-solving and resolution techniques.
- Maintains accurate records of test data, archives reports, and tests samples
- Calibrates test equipment and production gauging as per frequency required (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly)
- Maintains and improves 5S performance and all lean manufacturing principles
- Maintains lab equipment in proper working order
- Develops and performs preventive maintenance activities for lab equipment and production gauging
- Verifies thermal operations by monitoring and testing process variables
- Provides technical support to production and maintenance
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives
- Adheres to Sodecia's policies and procedures
- Adheres and supports Sodecia's Safety and Environmental policies and practices
- Ensure the requirements of the Quality Management System, IATF 16949 are conformed to
- Investigate complaints of a metallurgical nature and report findings and initiate corrective actions where required.
- Ensure completion of product and process audits;
- Responsible to meet all customer requirements for product quality and reliability;
- Validate the root cause, determination of complaints and effectiveness of corrective actions;
- Actively participate in program planning and status meetings;
- Help maintain and create production procedures for the department in accordance with the specified standards adopted by Sodecia;
- Perform other duties required from time to time by Department leader.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Manufacturing Environment
- Lifting up to ~ 30 lbs occasionally
- Noise in excess of 85dBA - mandatory hearing protection is provided
- Safety glasses & steel toed footwear are mandatory at all times on the plant floor
- Ability to react appropriately in challenging situations while working in “Just in Time” environment.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor degree in, Metallurgical Engineering and/or Material Sciences Engineering and/or Management;
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Certification is a plus;
- Meet the requirements of CQI-9: minimum 5 years experience in heat treat operations or a combination of a minimum of 5 years formal metallurgical education and heat treat experience; preference will be give to candidates that have operational heat treat experience of 3 years plus proof of formal education.
- Must understand quality core tools including statistical process control, measurement systems analysis, part approval, failure mode and effects analysis and advanced quality planning.
- Experience with customers and suppliers in the stamped component and welded assembly market;
- Proven experience and understanding of CQI, IATF1694 and ISO14001
- Good organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills;
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

- Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the OHSA.
- Follow and ensure the Company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
- Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to the safety rules and regulations.
- Ensure that your Department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
- Responsible to adhere to all Environmental Program ISO 14001 elements and attend training for same. Act in accordance to all Environmental policies, procedures and regulations.
