Job Description

About Us

Equals Brewing Company was founded in 2018 and has quickly become a trusted partner in producing exceptional beers, ciders, and ready-to-drink products for some of Ontario’s and Canada’s favorite brands.

We’re the creators of Bangarang Hard Seltzer, one of the fastest-growing RTD brands in Ontario, and Shake Lager, a gold medal winner at the Canadian Brewing Awards. In 2022, we proudly added Side Launch Brewery and its award-winning beers to our portfolio.

At Equals, we believe our success and growth are driven by the dedication of our people. We're a small, ambitious team with a vibrant and fun culture, and we're looking for a detail-oriented and driven Finance & Margin Optimization Manager. As a growing company, we are looking for employees who are ready to take initiative, contribute to our momentum, and deliver results.

About the Role

The Manager, Finance & Margin Optimization is a strategic new role that bridges Finance, Operations, and Commercial teams, turning operational data into actionable margin decisions.

The successful candidate will own key margin drivers — including procurement, pricing, production costs, and product profitability — and deliver insights that directly influence business strategy and improve profitability. By combining financial expertise with operational understanding, this role ensures decisions are data-driven, timely, and aligned with company growth objectives.

This role requires a blend of technical skill, business acumen, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. If you thrive on analyzing complex data, identifying opportunities to improve margin, and influencing critical business decisions, this is the role for you.

What You’ll Do - Key Responsibilities

Margin Optimization & Pricing Strategy

  • Develop and maintain SKU-level profitability analysis to support product portfolio decisions, promotional planning, and innovation initiatives.
  • Conduct product-level margin analysis and provide recommendations to Commercial leadership on pricing strategies and product mix optimization.
  • Partner with Operations and the President to ensure contract pricing models reflect current input costs, duties, and beer & liquor taxes.
  • Develop and maintain pricing governance and controls, ensuring systems are updated in a timely manner and financial models reflect accurate pricing structures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve gross margin through cost management, supplier negotiations, and pricing adjustments.
  • Monitor inventory aging and turnover trends, providing recommendations to improve working capital and reduce product obsolescence.

Regulatory & Tax Compliance

  • Develop subject matter expertise in government beer and liquor tax regulations.
  • Lead monthly tax calculations, reporting, and submissions to regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support external regulatory or financial audits related to tax reporting.

Procurement Strategy & Supplier Management

  • Partner with Operations and Commercial leadership to establish and manage the end-to-end procurement lifecycle.
  • Lead supplier relationship management including evaluation, negotiation, onboarding, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Analyze contract pricing structures and cost implications, identifying opportunities for savings and improved margin.
  • Review and manage supplier contracts, including term evaluation, approvals, and centralized contract database management.
  • Oversee change management activities when consolidating or transitioning suppliers.
  • Implement controls to monitor adherence to contracted pricing, service levels, and key commercial terms.
  • Develop reporting and controls that improve visibility into procurement spend, supplier concentration, and cost trends.

Financial Analysis & Decision Support

  • Analyze key COGS drivers including raw materials, packaging, and production costs, identifying opportunities to improve cost efficiency and product margins.
  • Lead financial analysis of capital investments, including financial modeling, post-investment analysis, and accounting entries.
  • Build and maintain financial models supporting budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis.
  • Develop actionable reporting and insights that improve visibility into profitability, cost drivers, and operational performance.

Financial Operations Support

  • Support month-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analytical review as required.
  • Provide backup support across finance functions to ensure continuity in time-sensitive activities.

Process Improvement & Systems Optimization

  • Drive continuous improvement by optimizing system capabilities, harmonizing platforms, and integrating new tools.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and internal controls to support compliance, operational efficiency, and scalability.
  • Support organizational change initiatives, particularly those related to regulatory changes or evolving industry dynamics.

What We’re Looking For

  • A post-secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Economics.
  • Professional designation such as CPA (or in progress).
  • 5+ years in financial analysis, cost accounting, or margin management, ideally in manufacturing, food & beverage, or CPG.
  • Hands-on experience with COGS, procurement, pricing, and inventory management.
  • Experience with government tax compliance, ideally beer/alcohol-specific, is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate

  • The ability to work with Operations, Commercial, and leadership to drive decisions.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling, margin analysis, and cost drivers.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills — able to influence decision-making.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Autonomy and initiative, with the ability to drive solutions and lead change.

What to Expect

  • Full-time, in-office role focused on driving the business forward.
  • Regular collaboration with internal teams, vendors, and customers.
  • Periods of high workload, especially during month-end and year-end close cycles.

Why Join Us?

  • Be Part of Something Growing: We’re a small, ambitious team making big moves in the industry.
  • Room to Make an Impact: You’ll have the autonomy to build relationships, contribute ideas, and deliver results.
  • Work with Great People: Join a team that values collaboration, efficiency, and a shared commitment to success.
