Executive summary

The HR Business Partner – Labour Relations will act as the Human Resources Partner to their clients.  This role will collaborate with the HR team and Supervisor/Managers by offering HR support and guidance on employee/labour relations, performance management, conflict resolution and other HR practices. The HR Business Partner – Labour Relations will also promote, encourage, and foster a positive and cooperative Labour Relations environment amongst union, management, and employees.  Provide day to day support and consultation to management, staff and union committee in application and interpretation of CBA, Employment Standards, Labour Relations, Company policies and practices. 

What You Will Do!

  • Support Supervisors in managing performance on their teams, including performance improvement and performance consulting
  • Supports employee policy management and compliance including administration, consistent application, process improvement, benchmarking, enhancements, modifications, and development & implementation as well as maintains compliance with all applicable employment related legislation
  • Implements &/or delivers programs in support of leadership development, learning, performance development, communications, and employee engagement
  • Work with HR support team to provide general reporting and support data requests to enable better decision making, conduct problem analysis and recommend people solutions
  • Investigate and support resolution of employee/labour relations issues in partnership with HR Operations team and management to ensure all complaints and/or concerns are addressed
  • Foster positive employee, union and management relations
  • Develop and maintain respectful and harmonious relationships in the administration of CBA
  • Provide advice to management, staff, and union committee in application and interpretation of CBA, Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Company policies and best practices.
  • Day to day contact for staff and bargaining unit to address employee concerns/issues
  • Administration of collective agreement –bumping procedure, layoffs, job postings and recruiting
  • Schedule and participate in Step 1 and 2 grievance meetings between employees, union representatives, supervisors and management to investigate and resolve grievances
  • Participate in Step 3 grievances, mediations and arbitrations
  • Participate in contract negotiations
  • Investigate complaints of harassment, discrimination, workplace violence or other employment related issues and provide recommendations to management
  • Actively promote & demonstrate our core values and regularly communicate information pertaining to being an employee at Masco Canada

What You Will Bring!

  • Minimum of 1-3 years progressive labor relations/ human resources experience including involvement in the administration of collective agreements, including negotiations, grievance and arbitration procedures in a unionized environment.
  • HR BP and/or HR Generalist experience.
  • Degree/Certificate in Human Resources Management and/or Labour Relations.
  • CHRL designation preferred.
  • Accuracy and confidentiality is a must.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources management practices
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work, sometimes with conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, being organized and a positive team player.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Good judgement, strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Analytical thinking, organizational awareness.
  • Proven conflict resolution and negotiation skills
