Equals Brewing Company was founded in 2018 and has quickly grown to be a well-respected partner in producing great beers, ciders, and ready-to-drink products for many of Ontario’s and Canada’s favourite breweries and brands. Role Summary
Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, this position is responsible for a variety of tasks as they relate to the smooth operations within the quality lab. Specifically, managing resources, performing analytical and microbiological testing, developing customer reports, maintaining and calibrating lab equipment, and utilizing experience and knowledge to improve the operations, safety, and product quality as it relates to the duties and responsibilities in the lab. This position will be required to work closely with other department leads, managers, and coworkers to ensure organizational goals are met.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working with production personnel to provide quality assurance
- Coordinate and lead quality improvement projects, sometimes working closely with other departments
- Ensure Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards are maintained
- Support and develop quality knowledge throughout the site and create databases for improved efficiency in the lab
- Analyze micro, brewing, and packaging results and follow up as required
- Comply with environmental, health, food safety, and safety policies
- Act as a point of contact for quality control technicians to troubleshoot errors and develop ongoing solutions
- Perform routine testing and analysis of raw materials, brewing and packaging in-process samples, and finished products to ensure food safety and compliance with our Brand Specs
- Data- entry responsibilities and the completion of customer reports
- Responsible for the maintenance, calibration, and cleanliness of the lab and lab equipment. Working with staff to ensure the equipment is in working order and any necessary repair parts are ordered and in stock
- Train and conduct audits to support understanding with operators on quality testing
- Provide data to troubleshoot Brewing and Packaging quality issues, and make notes or SOPs to facilitate troubleshooting in the future
- Review brewing and packaging Quality Control check sheets for any non-conformance and alert the department as necessary
- Support other operations and teams throughout the site
Qualifications:
- Past experience in a Quality Control lab in a food production environment
- Brewing, distilling, or wine-making experience is considered an asset
- Good communication, impact, and influence skills
- Ability to critically think and work with others to ensure quality standards are upheld, even with the potential for conflicting goals
- Able to work under minimal supervision, as well as with a team
- Desire to innovate and ability to ensure continuous improvement with regard to required duties and functions
- Able to set priorities and work to meet predetermined objectives
- Proficient Computer Skills (excel, word, outlook)
- Knowledge of HACCP, 5S, and GMP principles
- Shift flexibility to work day, afternoon, and overnight shifts. (8 hours in the off-season and 12 hours during peak season).
- Work Monday to Friday with some weekend work as required
