Job Description

Payband: This position is paid at Payband I.
Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Work Categorization: This position requires daily on-site presence and is not subject to hybrid work.
Note: This position is located at our Packaging Advancement Centre (PAC) which is located on the ground floor at The Grove – Western Fair District, 900 King Street, London, Ontario.
Duties
Under the general supervision of the Senior Manager, Biotechnology Research Labs, the incumbent shall provide up-to-date technical support and assistance to staff, faculty and students in the daily operation, maintenance, organization and implementation of the applied research activities in the Packaging Advancement Centre (PAC) at the Western Fair District (WFD). The WFD also has a ‘sister’ PAC facility located at same site and the incumbent will be collaborating with staff in this facility as industry partner requirements require. This includes scheduling and conducting tests, compiling data and preparing reports for the various projects done at PAC. The incumbent also tests fixtures and performs repairs and arranges for calibration of test equipment and components, when necessary.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary 3-year diploma/degree in Packaging Engineering Technician, or Manufacturing Engineering Technician
- Minimum 5 years’ demonstrated recent, relevant experience in a research and development laboratory or fee-for-service laboratory, providing technical support for food/ beverage packaging, packaging engineering, manufacturing engineering, etc.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience in industry and working with/guiding/mentoring students in an asset
- Ability to effectively collect and manage data, and generate reports
- Experience in troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment is preferred
- Demonstrated ability to develop SOPs and design experiments
- Proven ability to ‘get things done’ inside stipulated deadlines and budget, while being innovative and resourceful
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team-orientated, collaborative environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
