Job Description
Toolmaker
This position is located in Strathroy, ON.
13 weeks off throughout the year + 3 weeks vacation.
Full benefits package and up to $3000 signing bonus.
Primary Purpose of Position
To keep all tools and dies in good working order to ensure timely production and quality parts to our customer.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
1. Housekeeping:Cleaning toolroom area and equipment.
- Maintain safe working environment.
- To report to Toolroom leader any safety concerns.
2. Preventative Maintenance: Desoldering cast tools.
- Maintain cast and trim tools in good working condition through regular preventative maintenance.
- Must repair tooling related breakdowns.
- Running hydraulic or air cylinders as required.
- Making sure incoming dies are ready to run.
- Weld up dies as required.
- Performing measuring, checking and layout operations.
- Setting up and operating to prescribed tolerance various precision machining tools.
- Making minor engineering changes to dies as requested
3. Shipping or receiving: all cast or trim tools (new or production) to die shops, as needed. (Off shifts)
4. Machining: Making fixtures, plunger tips, cores, punches, gauges and drawings for parts.
- Machining plunger tips - New style to restock as they are changed and sorted; - Old style to be set-up at time of request.
5. Training: Must take time to trainapprentices, passing on the knowledge of the trade as needed.
- Must take the initiative to learn new machinery to ensure job knowledge does not get outdated.
6. Other:
- Must contribute their opinion or forward ideas about tooling improvements.
- Cooperating with production, maintenance, and engineering personnel to ensure that qualified tooling is available and maintained.
- Other duties as required, including special projects that may arise.
Educational and Experience
- Certificate of Qualification for Tool & Die Maker/ Mould Maker - Essential
- 3+ years’ experience within a manufacturing plant - Desirable
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite - Desirable
- Familiarity with Mastercam, AutoCAD, Inventor, Spinfire - Desirable
Shift Schedule
The Meridian maintenance team offers a unique shift schedule which provides 2 paid weeks off, ever 5 weeks. To support a 365 day, 24 hour 7 day Operation Maintenance personnel are scheduled:
- Every 5 weeks
- 5 Day shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 7am - 3pm | Weekend Off
- 5 Afternoon Shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 3pm - 11pm | Weekend Off
- 5 Midnight Shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 11pm - 7am | 2 Midnight Shifts Saturday - Sunday, 12 hours, 11pm - 11am
- 5 Days Off, Monday - Friday | 2 Afternoon Shifts Saturday - Sunday, 12 hours 11am - 11pm
- 7 Days Off
The two 12 hour shifts constitute 40 hours of pay.
