Role Summary

The Department Leader is responsible to ensure the consistent delivery of services provided by the Human Resources Department through a combination of direct and indirect leadership

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects Formet Expectations, Formet’s Visions/Values through Magna’s Employee Charter.
  • Ensure that short and long term planning is established for department in the areas of, but not limited to, Operating and capital budgets, manpower planning, CIP and cost reduction plans, Quality, Safety, Environmental and Employee satisfaction and motivation.
  • Provide training and work instructions in the areas of, but not limited to, Health & Safety, TS 16949, ISO14001, job specific etc
  • Reinforce the Open Door process
  • Educate, support and promote corporate initiatives i.e. Employee’s Charter, EOS, Hotline, Fairness Committee, and the Employee Advocate.
  • Provide people with the opportunity for a “Better place to work for a better life”. The Investors a “Better company to invest in for a better return” and Customers a “Better product for a better price”.
  • Maintenance of all leadership personnel contracts and team member records and communicate changes to all required personnel as appropriate. 
  • Establish developmental/training requirements of Human Resources Department; and implement corrective measures if required in order to sustain effectiveness of services provided 
  • Influence for development, implementation of, change to, labour relations strategies necessary for the preservation of a non-organized, quality work life environment and drive any resulting programs or strategies as assigned or where appropriate
  • Ensure that all HR Department personnel are kept current of information that impacts on their function or the overall delivery of the groups’ services by maintaining regular communication meetings with structured/standardized reporting requirements
  • Oversee all matters pertaining the application of progressive discipline, termination, lay off, recall or any other performance management issues that may arise to ensure fairness and consistency in plant wide application
  • Ensure a safe and appropriate return to work program is available for employers on WSIB or other types of leave.
  • Provide support, advisement, or influence where appropriate/necessary, to leadership groups or individual development of policies, procedures, work practices where there is the potential to negatively impact labour relations, quality of work life, or compliance to established standards (legislation, divisional, corporate) 
  • Establish, maintain, and communicate HR Department key performance indicator reports on monthly basis 
  • Ensure that all Accidents/Incident Investigations are completed and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure wages and benefits are internally fair and externally competitive. Make adjustments as necessary. 
     

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have Post-Secondary Certificate in Human Resources Management or HRPA designation.
  • Must have skills gained by experience minimum seven (7) years.
  • Minimum 5 Years Labour Relations Experience.

Working Conditions

  • Office and Manufacturing Environments
  • Able to work shift work.
  • Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the O.H.S.A. 
  • Follow and ensure the company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
  • Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to Formet’s safety rules and regulations.
  • Active role in maintaining excellent housekeeping through leading by example. 
  • Ensure that your department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times
  • As with Safety, Security is everyone’s responsibility and Formet requires its employees to contribute to this activity by immediately notifying your supervisor when you identify security issues that affect the integrity of our supply chain, in accordance with PIP (Partners in Protection) and C-TPAT (Customs – Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements
