Mechatronic Engineering Intern

Full-time, fixed term: 12 Months
This is a fixed term position starting April 28, 2025 to May 1, 2026
Who will you be working with?
As the Mechatronics Engineering (Co-op), you will report to the Manager, Engineering and Products and work with a team of talented engineers and software developers responsible for designing, developing, and delivering our industry-leading transit electronics solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, operations, and customer support, to ensure our solutions meet the evolving needs of our customers.
How will you make a difference?
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, assembly, testing complex engineering solutions that may require Mechanical, Electrical and/or Software skillsets. These could be customer products or internal systems but both will need same level of attention to detail, to ensure that the requirements are met.
What do we want to know about you?

Enrolled in Engineering or Science Degree

Knowledge is mechanical systems design, electrical systems design and programming.

Basic Understanding of pneumatic systems (valves, solenoids, cylinders, fittings, etc)

Basic PLC Programming experience.

Basic Experience with PCB design and troubleshooting

Ability to effectively interact with peers, internal stakeholders, vendors and service providers.

Effective two-way communication skills, including verbal as well as written forms
What will your typical day look like?
As the Mechatronics Engineering (Co-op), your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Design, troubleshoot and maintain Mechatronic systems.

Use systematic approach to create processes/documents to troubleshoot electro-mechanical components for Automated Test Equipment

Program systems in various PLC languages.

Perform all aspects of technical work.

Ensure all Engineering aspects of the systems are sound and that designs meet all associated design criteria and specifications

Review technical work and contract requirements.

Determine electrical and instrumentation requirements for new projects.

Recommend technical direction for application of new equipment and upgrade of existing equipment and assists in the support of existing systems.
What about the physical demands of the job?
The role may require occasional travel to customer sites, which may involve standing, observing small writing and labels, climbing, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between $24.00 - $27.00 CAD per hour. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
