Payroll & Benefits Supervisor

 
  • We are hiring a Payroll Supervisor in our St. Thomas, ON location!

    The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and oversight for the payroll & benefits functions, including leading the People Services team members, ensuring compliance with taxation laws, budget preparation, and financial reporting relating to labour, payroll, pension & benefits. The Payroll & Benefits Supervisor is a strong partner of the People Operations team, working together to ensure data, metrics, and reporting are accurate, as well as to develop and implement policies.

    In this role, you will be responsible for running payroll for approximately 250 salaried employees and 500+ hourly employees, managing all payroll functions including supervision and back-up for People Services team members, reconcile monthly benefits billings and payroll-related GL accounts, and train People Services team members on system changes, process changes, payroll best practices.

    What You Will Do:

    • Supervise Masco Canada payroll & benefits functions; manage payroll & benefits changes and updates, keep up with ongoing government requirements, assist in processing the payroll when vital

    • Review and approve bi-weekly payroll reports and transactions

    • Work directly with several intercompany contacts regarding payroll monthly cross charges

    • Review of online remittances, source deductions, pensions, RRSP, etc.

    • Pension payments for Defined Contribution plan. Year-end reconciliation for T4s, EHT and WSIB filing

    • Participation in union contract negotiations, providing calculations and costs for various scenarios presented

    • Review and maintain Masco Canada internal control documents relating to payroll

    • Review final payroll registers, earnings, deductions and GL distribution reports

    • Collaborate closely with payroll provider on earnings and deductions code updates and/or issues

    • Respond to requests from managers for labour charge information

    • Assist with annual budget preparation for salaried costs and hourly labour expenses

    • Monthly reconciliation of payroll-related GL accounts

    • Intercompany billings and monthly balancing relating to payroll cross charges

    • Masco Canada monthly manning & headcount

    • Special projects relating to pension or payroll for VP of HR or Manager, People Services & Solutions

    Who You Are:

    • 8 years’ progressive experience in a payroll position with at least five in a supervisory role

    • Experience in a manufacturing environment with a unionized workforce

    • Experience with implementing new payroll and time & attendance systems if preferred

    • Proven finance background

    • Interpersonal communication skills

    • Supervisory skills

    • Strong analytical capabilities with attention to detail

    • Excel, Word, Presentation and Training Skills

    • CPA Designation, Certified Payroll Management Certification (CPM), Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification (CPA), or equivalent

    • Disaster recovery planning and testing for labour and payroll is an asset
