Role Summary

The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for working with the Health and Safety Team to support aspects of the facilities health and safety systems including environmental support, to ensure company health and safety compliance in all levels of governmental legislation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Reviews and Updates H&S/Enviro/Ergo documents.
  2. Conducts risk assessments and physical demands analysis.
  3. Supports H&S and Enviro workplace inspections.
  4. Determine and complete Ergonomic assessments.
  5. Qualifies and coordinates the implementation of contracted services.
  6. Aid in determining and implementing operational controls, and monitoring and measuring methods as it pertains to health and Safety.
  7. Receives, follows up with employee queries in a timely and professional manner.
  8. Follows and adheres to requirements of current customer quality, safety and environmental (ISO 14001) management systems standards.
  9. Prepare information required for management Review of the Environmental Management System and participates in the review.
  10. Aids in preparation materials as it relates to audits.
  11. Acts as a resource in supporting the Joint Health, Safety, Ergonomics and Environmental Committee.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  1. Successful completion of post secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Ergonomics or related field.

  2. Interest in working towards a CRSP, and/or CCPE/CPE

  3. Minimum one (1) year work-related experience.

  4. Experience with setting up contracted services and integrating H&S and Enviro Systems

  5. Knowledge of the Health & Safety Act.

  6. Knowledge and experience in applying OHSA and applicable regulations as well as WSIB policies and procedures. 

  7. Interest in gaining experience with Industrial Hyigene.

  8. Strong interpersonal, communication and organization skills.

  9. Demonstrated ability in analytical, organizational, communation, time management, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.

  10. Experience in Microsoft Office programs, Window and Web-based applications, JACK, UofM Energy Expenditure, Handpak/Bakpak.

RESPONSIBILITY AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Health & Safety Coordinator works under the general direction of the Human Resources Department Leader as well as Senior Health and Safety Coordinators in performing a variety of health and safety related tasks. The work requires independent judgement and knowledge with understanding of department/plant functions.  The Health & Safety Coordinator must possess good communication skills, both verbal and written to exchange and/or collect information from a variety of contacts (internal and external).  The Coordinator is responsible for confidentiality of personnel information and works in an office environment but may spend variable periods of time throughout the plant area where there is exposure to workplace elements such as temperatures and noise.
